Alli had a seriously tough childhood. But worked hard as a young professional player to earn himself more than 30 England caps and become a top performer in the Premier League. His career has nosedived but at 29 he’s capable of becoming an accomplished player once again. Apparently he now has mental health issues and is struggling to keep his career on track but if he can regain his confidence and match fitness then he’s well worth considering dependent on salary requirements and terms. |
 | Forum Reply | Russell Martin - Rangers ... at 11:58 29 Aug 2025
Russell Martin certainly divides opinion but it’s plainly inaccurate to describe him as “ incapable and deluded “. At Rangers FC now, we all know how weak the Scottish League is and it’s arguable that the best clubs there are not good enough to play in the EFL Championship. Possibly they are League One level. So it’s not a surprise to see Rangers lose to Brugge. It’s the Rangers club and it’s entitled supporters that are in fact deluded. Martin is well aware of their limitations. Martin has a reputation for over playing. He knows that modifications are required but he’s trying to get his teams to play in a certain way and when it works it’s a joy to watch. He did quite well here and a club record unbeaten league run of twenty plus games at Southampton says a lot. He’s stubborn undoubtedly but he’s right to question the attitude of highly paid players. He is under pressure already but good luck to him. |

Grimsby were very good in the first half. It reminded me of our win against West Ham in 1999 when they were a top Premier Leafue side including the likes of Rio Ferdinand Frank Lampard Neil Ruddock and John Hartson . We were the first fourth tier club to knock out a Premier league club then. It showed that passion, crowd support at its best and a less then committed bunch of over paid stars can be brought down. I’d exclude Harry McGuire from that as he was superb. Cup football at its finest to be fair. |
 | Forum Reply | Fifa Club World Cup at 12:45 13 Jul 2025
The World Club Cup is an excellent concept and no doubt it’ll be one of the biggest things in football with gradual progression. But it needs to ensure that the best teams are there. After all there’s a good argument to suggest that the best clubs will be better than the best countries. As money can buy success as we have seen, a Saudi club in time for example could become the best in the world. It’s interesting to see the different styles, standards and expectation from around the world playing against each other competitively and with big money at stake. The World Cup for countries is one of the biggest sporting events in the world alongside the Olympics. It wasnt like that when it started around 100 years ago. The World Club Cup can rival that in time. When the best teams are there and it gathers momentum it’ll happen. People tend not to like change. With an inability and/ or unwillingness to think outside the box consequently. |

Is that the World Cup campaign that Page got us to the Finals of? For the first time in how many years? Playing his mates? That’s such an idiotic and ill informed remark. If you’re referring to Gareth Bald Joe Allen and Aaron Ramsey then it was of course worth taking a chance on them. And they deserved the opportunity to play in the Finals. It wasn’t to be but fair to play to him for getting Wales there. Best of luck to Page going forward. He’s a good guy. |

Ok then Einstein what would you suggest is the best alernative? And would you de the same qualification criteria for football and other sports? I’m more concerned that this was just a friendly which has been marketed into something that it’s clearly not and people are easily pleased and led. |

The problem with the system is that, apart from being completely unfair and not rewarding the best teams, it allows a club who are ill equipped to get into the biggest league in world football to do just that. As for allowing a club in 7th into the play offs that only makes it worse. Averaging only1.5 points a season shouldn’t enable a club to get anywhere near to promotion but that’s what’s happening unfortunately. |
 | Forum Reply | Chris Wilder at 20:25 12 Jun 2025
It might well be a money spinner and it keeps the interest going for lots of clubs but it’s unfair. The purpose of a league table is to judge which are the best and worst teams throughout a season. Sheffield were the 3rd best team finishing with 90 points and 28 wins from their 46 games at 1.96 per game. That’s an excellent season albeit they were disappointed with their April form. They then wiped the floor with Bristol 6-0 over two games but missed out to Sunderland who finished a whopping 14 points behind them. Teams like Bristol Blackburn Swansea Sheff Weds weren’t good enough to get into the play offs / Premier league. But they could have ….thats simply a pile of bollox to use a technical term . |
 | Forum Reply | Chris Wilder at 14:24 12 Jun 2025
Failed badly? Thats unfair and inaccurate. In Europes most competitive league they finished in 3rd place and only behind a very good Leeds team and Burnley who were almost impossible to score against. The play off system is a nonsense really. It gives a team who finish 20 points ( for example ) behind another club the chance to be promoted ahead of them. Can you imagine if Bristol City had gone up? Sheffield did well to finish in 3rd but it’s Sunderland who didn’t do as well who get the plaudits and promotion. It’s a funny old game … |

An outstanding game of football of the highest quality. And the perfect illustration of how the game should be played. Defenders comfortable and patient in possession and happy to play it out from the back. And then get forward quickly themselves. Forwards with pace trickery and bravery. Both sides trying to dominate the ball in possession terms which Spain one whilst putting pressure on the ball and quickly when out of possession. A Martinez masterclass as Portugal did mix it up a bit although Spain were unlucky as they created more goal attempts (16v9). |
 | Forum Reply | Harry Darling : Torn between the Swans and a decision to leave at 21:41 31 May 2025
Darling is an exceptionally good Championship central defender. He has formed an outstanding partnership with Cabango. With 19 goals from his last 172 league games he’s also a real danger from set pieces often weighing in with set piece goals with his good movement and powerful heading ability. At 25 the next five years will be his best and he is only doing what all players must do and that’s look after their future and family. It’s a bit naive to say he’s not a “true Jack” when that’s really irrelevant isn’t it. He’s a passionate player when he’s out on that pitch. We are a club who seem to be getting their act together again. They’ll be aware of the need to keep Darling. It’ll depend as well how tempted he is elsewhere. It must be a difficult decision for him to be fair. |

With over 500 league games played, mainly at Norwich City and almost 30 full international caps it’s fair to say that Russell Martin may well know a thing or two more than the likes of Dr Winston who has probably never kicked a ball in anger. When Martin went to Southampton in that summer the club received over £100m in transfer fees for players who were leaving including their star men like Ward-Prowse who joined West Ham for more than £30m. Southampton brought in several free transfers and loan players spending only a tenth of that. Despite losing so many players from their squad they went on an unbeaten run of more than 20 games which I think is a Saints club record. They weren’t able to compete financially and predictably along with Ipswich and Leicester came straight back down. He’s a bright young manager who will have learned from his mistakes. The passing out from the back policy can of course work and does work effectively. He will get another chance next season and with a modified approach he will do well. He’s aware that he needs to make some adjustments. I don’t understand the dislike from some. Could it be jealousy. Surely not. |

There’s always two sides ( at least ) to every story. Discounting and ignoring his comments would be foolish. He did a lot of good work here. Our performances around Christmas were exceptional but we weren’t able to maintain it and we did fall away. He did his best and worked hard but it was the right time for him to leave. It’s football. It’s a cut throat business. He will come back I’m sure. |
 | Forum Reply | Do you want Joe Allen to have a one year contract in June ? at 12:14 6 Apr 2025
Modern day football requires athletes all through the team but especially in midfield. Allen can’t run now so his days are numbered. Need new young hungry fit players. He knows he’s finished too. That’s the reality sadly as he’s enjoyed a superb career and is one of life’s good guys. A top man. |

He’s a talented player. Probably most suited to a right wing back position as he’s particularly good going forward. Defensively his positional and spacial awareness needs to be improved but he has the attributes and quality of a good championship footballer. Possibly like a lot of our players his confidence is quite low as we are on a poor run of results this year. Burnley are a good team. Hard to play against they take a grip of things. We aren’t at thst level just now but players like Key are capable of getting there. |
 | Forum Reply | Preston North End v Swansea City : Match day thread at 13:40 5 Mar 2025
We lacked cohesion, style, a clear identity and couldn’t string two passes together for most of the game which from our perspective was quite poor. On the rare occasion we got forward there was no support, players isolated and big gaps between the lines. It wasn’t a close unit and although our lads tried hard and defended well at times with excellent goalkeeping from Vigouroux that was a fortunate point. Helped by some poor finishing from Preston. We have to be a lot better than that and I’m sure we will be. |

What a weekend that was Travelled up in a self drive mini bus and stayed for two nights at Bredbury Hall in Stockport Had a few pints before the game. When we scored I decided to run onto the pitch to celebrate. Within three yards of getting onto the pitch I was grabbed from behind in a bear hug with a steward shouting at me “ you’re going out “! Luckily for me ten yards to my left ( we were on halfway ) another Swans fan had been wrestled to the ground by a steward. My steward 😃 decided to let me go to help his colleague allowing me to run back into the terrace. Back onto the pitch at the end with thousands of others to see the Police arrest Gueret for refusing to get off the roof of the dug out. Back to hotel. Later spoke to Graham Barrow there who I think was Bury manager that day. He seemed to know Martinez although don’t know what the connection was. A fab few days. ⚽️🍺🦢 Adrian Forbes also got the last league goal at the Vetch the week before against Shrewsbury of course who had a very young Joe Hart in goal. They were great days weren’t they. |

I’m not forcing anything on you and I’ve already said that there will be differing opinions and views De Guzman though was an outstanding player. The fact that you couldn’t see that says a lot. Coming to us on loan from Villarreal he then went to Italian heavyweights Napoli and Eintract Frankfurt. It might be an exaggeration to say that he was a Rolls Royce while the likes of Allen and Britton were Skoda Octavia’s but you get my point I’m sure. Anyway you can try to make your point without personal insults. As I have. |

Yes opinions are and will be different of course I suppose they will show a lack of understanding and appreciation sometimes as is the case here with you. |

Dear god. I might be arrogant and a know it all but unlike you I know a good player when I see one. De Guzman was an outstanding Premier league midfielder who also managed 14 full caps for Holland. His technique was superb as was his range of passing and he was one of our stand out link men arguably in the history of Swansea City. As good as Allen and Britton were in their prime and that’s not in doubt it’s fair to say that De Guzman was the superior all round player. That period around 10 years ago he was as good as anyone around. But the way I don’t recall meeting you. Hopefully another time when you can buy me a beer. |
