goodbye to another one of us, RIP Dad
at 14:00 15 Jul 2025

having reached a very unexpected age of 88 I said goodbye to my dad, Martin Reed, this morning.

by the time he couldn't get up to the upper loft a few years ago, at the age of 82, he'd been going to Rangers for over 70 years. Born and bred in Hayes with family in Acton he was a regular at both QPR and Hayes all of his life; even going to games at Hayes with neighbours in later years when we were playing away. I'd offered to switch to a lower seat but he decided it was a bit too much anyway.

for the last 20 odd years we sat in Upper Loft JU, with Dad moaning at people standing up once his legs didn't get him up quick enough! We did countless away days together and i have so many happy memories of going up and down the country, just the 2 of us. This all culminated in the play off final and having finally seeing us win a final in his company ticked the final box for me; I never expected him to last this long as even then his health wasn't great.

we got to the stage that i'd buy his season ticket every year as a combined birthday, fathers day and Xmas as he genuinely wanted for nothing else apart form that and his sky sports subs! I worked on the basis that it's his fault i support this club and if i was going to watch this rubbish i was going to make him endure it too!

although a lifelong R he never pressured me into supporting us, but as i'm 57 now and grew up at the time of Gerry, Stan & co it wasn't a hard decision.

he was one of the kindest and most gentle people you could wish to meet. Never had a bad word to say about anyone and also had a sense of comfort with his lot. As long as my mum was happy, so was he. Spent endless years ferrying me around to any football i played and then taking my to HQ when work permitted and always had time to keep me company with whatever pointless away game i decided to drag him to.

Later on my travelling in to HQ always meant a stop off in Hayes to pick him up, lunch in the cafe in Bloemfontein Road and a couple of bets in William Hill.

His inability to pronounce foreign players names was an endless source of amusement to me; Chris Kiwomya being 1 that stood out like a scene from the Fast Show and the Unpronounceables sketch.

I can say without any doubt that i've not only lost my Dad today, but my best mate too. RIP Dad xx

Frankie Beverly RIP
at 16:08 11 Sep 2024

one of the truly great soul acts of the 80s. Fantastic live with one of the happiest & friendliest crowds you could imagine.

The last time i saw them at Hammersmith was probably 15 years ago and the crowd looked like every firm in London had turned up for a row, but all just sang along and hugged each other. loads of fat middle aged blokes having the very best of times.

RIP Frankie and thanks for the tunes and great night

and the iconic Joy & Pain

ST renewal..... am I missing something on the official?
at 11:39 30 Jun 2022

just trying to renew ST (against my better judgement & summer long reasoning)

well get to the payment page and it seems to be refusing to sell me my ST as I'm not a member buying in a members only area (Upper Loft); so i'm now hanging on for the box office which has the most annoying hold message.

no elevator music, just the 'thank you for your patience'....., followed by repeated 'there is still xx caller ahead of you in the queue'!

up there with most annoying holds ever....

anyway; lovely lady in box office sorted it out and my annual dose of self harming can commence once more

oh, point being; if you are a last minute renewer please bear this issue in mind.

Charile's podcast..........
at 08:35 19 Feb 2021

it does have a link to his racing connections but predominantly about footy. Bit of comment about us each week, all been good so far as we've been winning. Different guest each week and they do most of the chat; pretty honest/good footy chat.
