yep, he loved our little spot in front of you guys. Part of the reason for not moving was he knew i chatted to people around us and didn't want to disrupt that. Also didn't want to take the chance of getting soaked in the Paddocks either!
days like that are the ones to cherish; after the FA Cup, League Cup and Cardiff i never thought we'd get to celebrate a final win, but always had Hillsborough to reminisce about...
luckily Bobby and the boys sorted that out for us!
yep, he was a regular for the Sunday mornings from 9-18 and loved the kids stuff as much as the Rs; with the off pitch craic with the other parents too.
having reached a very unexpected age of 88 I said goodbye to my dad, Martin Reed, this morning.
by the time he couldn't get up to the upper loft a few years ago, at the age of 82, he'd been going to Rangers for over 70 years. Born and bred in Hayes with family in Acton he was a regular at both QPR and Hayes all of his life; even going to games at Hayes with neighbours in later years when we were playing away. I'd offered to switch to a lower seat but he decided it was a bit too much anyway.
for the last 20 odd years we sat in Upper Loft JU, with Dad moaning at people standing up once his legs didn't get him up quick enough! We did countless away days together and i have so many happy memories of going up and down the country, just the 2 of us. This all culminated in the play off final and having finally seeing us win a final in his company ticked the final box for me; I never expected him to last this long as even then his health wasn't great.
we got to the stage that i'd buy his season ticket every year as a combined birthday, fathers day and Xmas as he genuinely wanted for nothing else apart form that and his sky sports subs! I worked on the basis that it's his fault i support this club and if i was going to watch this rubbish i was going to make him endure it too!
although a lifelong R he never pressured me into supporting us, but as i'm 57 now and grew up at the time of Gerry, Stan & co it wasn't a hard decision.
he was one of the kindest and most gentle people you could wish to meet. Never had a bad word to say about anyone and also had a sense of comfort with his lot. As long as my mum was happy, so was he. Spent endless years ferrying me around to any football i played and then taking my to HQ when work permitted and always had time to keep me company with whatever pointless away game i decided to drag him to.
Later on my travelling in to HQ always meant a stop off in Hayes to pick him up, lunch in the cafe in Bloemfontein Road and a couple of bets in William Hill.
His inability to pronounce foreign players names was an endless source of amusement to me; Chris Kiwomya being 1 that stood out like a scene from the Fast Show and the Unpronounceables sketch.
I can say without any doubt that i've not only lost my Dad today, but my best mate too. RIP Dad xx
i only benefitted from seeing the great team you left behind; missed you by a couple of years but am fully aware of what you did to make QPR everyone's second team!
To have built a team with such flair and style to wear the mighty hoops; legendary status acquired!
i'm,still using Copa Mundial like a CB should and think of them like triggers broom; think i'm on my 9th pair. But only playing in them once a week, mainly on astro, means they last several years. Back in the day they'd last a season with 2-3 full games per week
just looked on ebay and the prices are mental; good luck on shifting them
the whole 'passage of play' rule regarding offside is farking idiotic and this has been an accident waiting to happen.
not blaming the lino as she did exactly as instructed; but when it is that clear, just put the flag up.
i'm surprised that it hasn't happened earlier, but with an over the top challenge that a defender knows is a free hit as the player is offside, but this clash has horrible viewing and had he not gone for it, would have bene accused of bottling it.
i know you and yes, you are a bit of a bellend.....
but to the best of my knowledge you haven't started a 13 page and counting thread where you have stated unsubstantiated facts about multiple contentious issues about the club that we all have supported for decades.
now these 'facts' have been stated in the company of people who follow the club far closer that I do, with relatively good sources of info or rumour, and yet they are none the wiser regarding the details stated by the OP in a 'factual' manner.
despite repeated requests to confirm or hint at the sources of these keys facts, he has then resorted to 'just a normal fan' expressing his opinion, completely ignoring fairly polite requests to put some meat on the bones....... massive levels of BS there, as NONE OF US would proffer such facts/views without some idea to the source; they are simply too detailed or extreme a view.
glad to hear that, one of my best mates is seeing them tonight in the NW. We were due to see Toots just before he popped off ad the gig was cancelled. Fantastic band.
really hope that he has simply delayed signing until we were safe in the championship, but suspect there will be a big financial offer from a parachute club looking to consolidate their squad after getting rid of some big prem wages.
from our perspective we could/should break the bank to keep him (in terms of our bank, not the stupid money elsewhere) as we know what he can do and may have to fork out ££££ for a replacement who will also want decent money.
invest the fee in keeping him...... it never makes sense to me when clubs let players go on a free who might have stayed for the right money; then spend a fortune buying in an unknown who still wants a big salary. might pish off other squad members, but that is just the way it goes.
