Saints face Swindon Town in the 2nd round of the Carling Cup.

The tie to be played next tuesday August 30th 7.45pm will evoke memories in older fans of the two times Saints drew the robins in the same competition in the 1980's especially the 1989/90 epic where Saints after a 0-0 draw at the County Ground, a postponed replay found themselves 2-0 down at the Dell before rallying to win 4-2.

The ticket details and pricing etc will be announced soon, what sort of side Saints put out will maybe take a little longer but I wouldnt hold out too much hope that it will be anything like our first XI

bstokesaint added 12:19 - Aug 25 To be honest last season the cups were a distraction. This year with fellow Championship sides and Premier League sides dropping like flies maybe with the strong squad we have we should be looking to do a little than previous years, excluding the JPT. I think of the League Cup less as a competition where the "bigger sides" do not simply opt not to put out their best side, but rather they just can't. When we beat Blackpool last year in the FA Cup it was quite simply because their squad was poor. We made as many changes as them and came out winners. We should be able to put out a team to beat Swindon without hurting our league chances.

moran89thmin added 18:09 - Aug 25 It really annoys me when the League Cup is described as an irrelevance or not worth going for. It's a major competition with a Wembley Final and a shot at the Europa League. If no one wants it we'll have it FFS! I hope Saints go balls out for it and we put out a strong team against Swindon and hit them for six.
