G.M's MatchDay Preview: Rams Movement & Work Rate To Baffle Bournemouth
Saturday, 23rd Nov 2013 04:43 by George Martin

The Rams head to newly promoted Bournemouth for the first time, in a long time (1986 to be exact), on the back of a good performance and result, against a woeful Sheffield Wednesday.

A sold out away end should ensure a cracking atmosphere and this should inspire the players to put on another good performance.

Bournemouth have only won one in the last eight games, but gained a very respectful draw away to Burnley in their last game. However, this was also against Chris Howe's ex club.

Lee Grant will go against 'Daddy's Boy' Lee Camp and hopefully Camp will not be too inspired. Camp was quite good at Derby and seemed like a level headed young man, but goodness knows what happened to him.

Although Cisse did well in the last game, I expect Eustace to come back into midfield. His experience, calmness and leadership skills give him the edge for me.

I also expect the back four and rest of the side to say the same with Dawkins improving all the time and Martin hopefully having time to recover from a niggling back.

It may be too early for Russell and Hendrick, but I believe Russell could make the bench.

Bournemouth could give Matt Ritchie his first appearance of the season after the attacking winger returned from injury in a behind closed doors friendly this week.

Goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan also made a return from injury but fellow goalkeeper Ryan Allsop remains sidelined with glandular fever. Derby needs to be aware of the attacking threat from Pitman and Pugh who have been on the scoresheet a few times this season.

There is also pace and power from £2.5m South African signing Rantie that Buxton and Keogh will need to keep a close eye on.

If Derby defends well, string the passes together and have quality in the final third I believe we are more than capable of winning the game, and Bournemouth will hopefully not be able to cope with our movement, work rate and wide play.

It was very encouraging against Sheffield Wednesday that players 'got in behind' the opposition, to deliver crosses for goals two and three. Something we never did under Clough (who!).

A win would be great and pull us further away from lower half/mid table mediocrity we suffered from in the past 5 years.

However, I would take a point!

Come on Derby!!

Hard to find a video for this one — so I settled for TV highlights from a pre-season friendly which finished 3-3 in the lead up to the 2010/11 season.
