A Big Transfer Week Ahead?
Sunday, 29th Jun 2014 10:23 by Planet Swans (Follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

Last night was an interesting one in Swansea transfer circles as stories appeared that Michu was allegedly in Italy passing a medical to join Napoli, the side that ended our Europa League run back in February.

The stories were quickly quashed by Swans Chairman Huw Jenkins who told a reporter that Michu was not having a medical at Napoli but there was much reports of the move being imminent which does make you wonder.

Stories had been circulating earlier in the week that the Swans were to make a move for one of their former loan stars in Gylfi Sigurdsson who would be an almost direct replacement for Michu should the Spaniard move on from the club this summer.

We have long since been told that Michu is not happy since the departure of Michael Laudrup back in February and his body language in games towards the end of last season when he was in the side left much to be desired. That said we were told from within the club that the player wanted to stay but a question mark will hang over that with the recent arrival of Bafetimbi Gomis and also the rumoured moves for Gylfi.

The Mirror today reports that the move for Gylfi will be an interesting one as Spurs want Ben Davies and Michel Vorm from the Swans which could lead two of the Premier League's best negotiators to go head to head in trying to secure the best deals for their clubs. It is difficult to know exactly where to pitch a deal like that but Vorm and Davies going to Spurs and Gylfi to the Liberty should involve the Swans getting some money as part of the deal as well.

Vorm is - in my view - almost certain to move on this summer following the arrival of Fabianski from Arsenal although the departure of Ben is anything other than a certainty and I wouldn't be surprised to see him still here next season and the price as we discussed in a previous article on here almost certainly needs to be higher than those currently quoted.

On the Gylfi front I would love to see him back here at the Liberty. He - for me - was one of the main reasons why we stayed up in that first season as his signing was a catalyst to us winning games which he helped us to do on a regular basis after his signing and that should never be underestimated. I was gutted when we didn't manage to sign him that summer but in Michu we had a different option coming in and I would never have changed that for the world. However, if Michu does want to move then I would certainly take Gylfi back as a more than viable alternative and one that I do not believe would weaken the squad if we can keep hold of Wilf as well. Gylfi could feed both Wilf and Bafetimbi and given our other attacking options then we have every reason to be optimistic again.

On occasions like this I trust Huw and the board to deliver the deals that are the best for the club and I think it will be an interesting week ahead to see what happens.

It would have to be quite a lot of money along with Gylfi. Two players who will walk into the Spurs team for a fringe player is great business for them. I think Ben is worth more on his own.
