Chambers To Return To Saints On Loan In January !
Thursday, 24th Dec 2015 09:52

Rumours are doing the rounds that Calum Chambers is on the verge of re joining Saints in a loan deal in January.

Calum Chambers is returning to St Mary's on Boxing Day with Arsenal, but he could be returning to Saints on loan in January if the latest rumours are correct.

Although Chambers move to Arsenal was initially successful he struggled for game time in the second half of last season and this year he has made just one start in the Premier League, that being back in August and since then he has managed just another 5 games off the bench totaling 67 minutes.

He has made 2 starts in the Capital One Cup as well as 3 appearances off the bench in the Champions League, but those have been fleeting in the final minutes of each game to run the clock down.

So his career has stalled somewhat and it seems Arsene Wenger is happy for him to go out on loan to gain more experience as it is easy to forget that he is still only 20.

Ronald Koeman would certainly use him a lot more than Arsene Wenger and his ability to play either right back where he played his games at Saints two seasons ago as well as in the centre of defence could be useful in plugging a few gaps.

Also Koeman has experimented lately with using three centre backs, this has not been entirely successful in that it means bringing in Yoshida who to be blunt is not up to the job, but Chambers could add a whole new dimension.

Calum Chambers will go on to be a great Premier League player, but his transfer to Arsenal has turned out to be a warning to all those youngsters who have their heads turned by the big clubs. There have been many who have seen promising careers smothered by being seen as a squad player at a big club meaning their talents have never blossomed in a way that only regular first team league football can allow.

I don't blame Calum Chambers for going, it was a good deal for Saints and it was a good deal for the player financially, it would be nice to see him come back here and flourish, even though it may mean he returns to Arsenal a better player and we will not reap those benefits next season.

Totally agree that of all our recent departures, this one (along of course with poor old RL) was the least wise decision on the part of the player himself. Alright he got money but he would now be our first choice right back instead of one of Wenger's bench warmers.

If this rumour is true it does say a lot about the two right backs we bought in the summer...

It was a great deal for us, it was also a kick in the teeth for our academy with all that time spent on an unfinished article but Chamber's jumped ship so he could go straight into the England team leaving the real England right back stuck at Saints and not playing for England, Arsenal know they made a boo boo signing Chambers and if true would be a way of getting future player's with our blessing without stealing, I hope this is not true I don't want to see Chamber's play for us again he left his talent somewhere near his great big wallet, Caulker is half decent right back , but we wont know if we don't try coyr

Strangely I think he could be the perfect replacement for Morgan

I can't believe he'd come back here and, quite frankly, I don't think he is ever going to be top drawer. His positional play is dubious (and we have enough of that already) and he is prone to giving away free-kicks when faced by a quick opponent. Is he really what we want. Not for me.

Right back has been a huge problem this season and has cost us many points. Cedric is ok going forward but really terrible defensively. The less said about Yoshi the better - so error prone. So we need a new player, but do we want someone whose head is so clearly at Arsenal, as you can tell from every quote he makes. He thinks he is too good for Southampton, let him prove it on the bench at Arsenal.

Can he score goals?

He would be a good back-up for the U21's who are not doing too well lately

Chambers was by no means a certain starter when he was here. If we're now chasing him it underlines that we've become weaker. He would help short term but if it happens in isolation it would seem to indicate that we're just going to try to 'muddle' our way through the rest of this season.

Taking back Chambers on loan would be the final straw for me in losing all the good things about our youth development. Why take on someone else's youth player for their experience when we could instead use Jason McCarthy or another prospect?
To be honest, this is the same story that the Dun pumped or out ahead of every other Arsenal game since they signed him, so I'm confused why everyone thinks there is any truth in it.
In the bizarre circumstance that it does happen though, it would just confirm that something is broken at our club. Cuca Martina anyone?

Not sure about this. He has always said in interviews that it was a great move to go to Arsenal and how it was better for his career even though he had only played 20-25 games for us. How much effort will he put in for us? I'd rather use one of the kids out on loan so recall them. Let him rot in Arsenal reserves.

StRipper I agree with your views on this.

Should he come back(and I hope he does not)then what sort of message does it send out to the rest of the Premiership? For goodness sake we are Southampton F C, not Arsenal's feeder club who take back their misfits when reality strikes them that they have made a mistake.

Should he return then it would confirm what I have thought for some time now, that the owner, board and chairman are beginning to lose the plot.

For goodness sake Chambers kept Clyne out of the side when he was eighteen and I for one would welcome him back to shore up that right back position. The attraction of playing for Arsenal would tempt most youngsters, ask Theo, and once there you become commited to that side but my guess is that if he returned to us he would play his heart out for us. But is this a mischievous dream or a real possibility?
No player is perfect but he is certainly better than what we have at the moment. Soares great going forward but weak in defense should develop his skills as a forward rather than as a defender.
