Saints Set To Offload Striker In the Summer Wednesday, 9th Apr 2025 08:37 If you pass by St Mary's this summer, you will see a change, they are set to replace their existing entrance door with a very large revolving one and one of the first through it could be Tall Paul Onuachu. Southampton have been trying to offload Paul Onuachu for the past two years, they couldn't do it back in 2023 and he went out on loan to Turkey for the year playing for Trabzonspor. Last season Saints again could not find a buyer willing to pay the players transfer value as the Turkish clubs hovering could not or would not pay the going rate, preferring to try and either get him on the cheap or on loan. Saints decided to hold out for a transfer and when that didn't happen he re-joined the squad for 2024/25 season. Now according to sportwitness.co.uk Tall Paul might finally leave the club on a permanent basis this summer. They say that his former club Trabzonspor are ready to make a move for the Nigerian striker and with just a year left on his contract, Southampton are likely to take the money and run. When he was at Trabzonspor according to transfermarkt.co.uk Onuachu's value held at around £11 million, but Saints could not find a buyer at that value. That value has been slowly dropping n the past 8 months, initially as Tall Paul could not get into the Southampton side and despite his 4 goals in the Premier League this season, it has continued to drop, mainly because of his age, he will turn 31 in May and also because he will be entering the last year of his contract this summer. That means that Saints will probably be looking to get somewhere around his current value of around £7 million, that is more around the price that Trabzonspor and other Turkish clubs could be willing to pay. The report also suggests that Besiktas are another Turkish club who are said to be interests and Southampton will hope that this will keep the bidding at somewhere around his current value. So that will bring hope that Saints can get something back on their initial outlay a little over two years ago. Not an ideal situation, but certainly not the first that something similar has occurred at Southampton FC or for that matter elsewhere, so it is now about cutting our losses and running, even £5 million into the coffers will help us in our squad rebuilding for next season. Perhaps not buying a quality striker, but I would expect Saints to utilise the loan market as they did last season in our successful promotion campaign, so Onuachu leaving will free up money on the wage bill to pay the wages of an incoming loan signing as well as putting a little bit of cash back into the club. The departure of Tall Paul will not be a loss, yes he has a knack for a goal and he runs around a lot, which does give a little bit of a false impression that he is contributing to the team, but overall his contribution has been minimal, aside from the goals. I truly wish Tall Paul all the best for his future away from St Mary's, as I have done for the past 50 years or so for many other signings who not for a lack of effort, have just not worked out.
