Will's Appointment InStilling Some Much Needed Positivity
Monday, 2nd Jun 2025 07:46 by Arron Sanders

On the back of what can only be described as a disastrous season for Southampton Football Club, the ownership team have acted swiftly to inject some positivity amongst supporters by securing the appointment of a new Men's First Team Manager in Will Still says Arron Sanders

The 32 year old Belgian raised Brit, arrives with a high reputation in the game on the back of his work in the Top tier of French Football with sides Stade Reims & RC Lens, where he was able to improve both sides on a small budget whilst also losing key players to bigger clubs during his spells with each of them.

One of the key positives this appointment will bring to supporters, is Still's ability to adapt tactically to situations on the pitch as they arise, which is a far cry from the stubbornness shown by some of the more recent managers that have graced the St Mary's dugout.

Another key ingredient of the new Saints boss, and one that endeared supporters to former manager Russell Martin is Still's ability to handle himself well with both his players and the media, he communicates well and seems to take a personal hands on approach with regards to his man management of his players and hopefully this will lead to a team who are willing to run through walls for their manager.

With Still's appointment confirmed and Technical Director Johannes Spors' backroom team in place, in time for a crucial summer transfer window which as I'm typing has been kicked off with a first arrival of young defender Joshua Quarshie from German side Hoffenheim it's certainly a nice feeling to have positive signs from the club ahead of the new season in the EFL Championship.

Players will no doubt come and go throughout the silly season, but I for one am already amazed at how quickly the excitement for a new campaign has begun to build.

I reserve judgement. Too many false dawns and too many times I have been quick to judge only to quickly proved wrong. It is results that count ultimately.

What I am pleased about, is that we have made an appointment and in place as soon as the season ended meaning that Still can get working on the team, transfers etc as early as possible and we are not trundling along into August in an air of uncertainty - though there will be a degree of uncertainty on who will be staying, going and coming. But, as I have said, my judgement will be based on results not on words.

Only time will tell. After the worst season in my 66 years since I first went through the turnstiles on Boxing Day 1959, then like supporters sincerely hope that this new dawn will bring a true smile back to our footballing lives. My first impressions are that we seem to have made a decent appointment, but there are many twists and turns to come over the next two months. The comings and goings are going to be crucial to many supporters to lift their hopes and dreams after last season’s apocalyptic decisions made by the owner. Godd luck Mr Still, you have my support as positivity from you can be infectious. Time for Saints to March on again.

I haven't felt this confident in a new manager ever
Having followed his career for 5 years I feel sure we are on an upward trajectory
Please don't prove we wrong Will.

We need to significantly improve our squad, and clear out the unwanted, the lightweights, and the deadwood. Then I'll feel positive.

I personally think it's a very good appointment and I'm interested in what he thinks of some of our promising youngsters. However he needs help from the board in getting rid of the dross, in our bloated squad and to be able to keep who he feels he needs and add where he needs to add!
