Southampton Have Bid For Fernandes Replacement Turned Down
Friday, 8th Aug 2025 09:57

Saints are fast becoming resigned to losing Matteus Fernandes this summer and they are being reported as having an opening bid for his replacement turned down, but they are likely to now up the ante.

The media are being briefed that Saints have made an offer for Coventry City's Jack Rudoni.

givemesport.com are amongst those reporting that a bid has been submitted to Coventry from Southampton but it is well below the club's valuation of their player.

Rudoni joined the Sky Blues from Huddersfield for £5 million last summer and his valuation is now double that after a season where he started 40 Championship games plus 3 off the bench and scored 9 goals with 12 assists

An impressive total for the 24 year old central midfielder who has slowly built up his reputation at AFC Wimbledon and then two seasons at Huddersfield before joining Coventry last season.

A versatile player who although essentially an attacking central midfielder, can also play in a more defensive role or out wide.

The rumour mill has picked up on this one with some reports actually claiming that he has been seen at Staplewood.

I would be surprised if that is the case, the media doesn't think that the deal is that far advanced at the moment, but the ball is very much in Saints court and the next move will hopefully see an improved offer put in.

The problem is that this Coventry as you would expect will be keen to get other clubs in on the act and push the asking price up a bit and the fact that Saints have already taken in over £30 million in transfer fees so far and if Tyler Dibling and Matteus Fernades do depart then that figure could more than triple and they know we have the money in the coffers.

Don't really know this player so we need to trust in Spors.
At the forum it was said that neither Dibling or Fernandez are close to leaving So fingers crossed
If we get Rudoni and Fellows we will not be that much worse off

Equally, I don't have any knowledge of Jack Rudoni but 9 goals and 12 assists definitely caught my attention. At 24 he's also got experience at the right level so, thankfully, the recruitment team hasn't just been looking at players with potential.

I thought our Directors said they were not going to keep selling our best players . This really gets to me . Sell Dibbling and Fernandez would be impossible to replace given the time . Plus who would join ov that calibre to a championship side after loosing two of there best players . We must build around them and push for promotion . Plus it would lead to the other quality players wanting to leave . Its crazy to keep carrying on like this . We could easily end up in Div 1 . We 100% need to keep these two players , as we have found out over the years good players are hard to come bye and our history in recent years has been a disaster . So why risk so much when we have the core of a great team . Yes we need to loos a few average players but PLEASE KEEP the best players . As the club shouted a few months back " WE ARE NOT GOING TO SELL OUR BEST PLAYERS ANYMORE" prove it and stop gambling with the fans and the future of the club .
