Tyler Dibling Leaves St Mary's For The Second Time
Monday, 25th Aug 2025 21:17

The first time that Tyler Dibling left St Mary's it was for Chelsea, but within weeks he was back at Southampton as he could see no path to the first team at Stamford Bridge, but will he be first choice at Everton.

Truth is for Saints, back in the Championship for the second time in three seasons, this is a good move, there will be much speculation around the total fee payable, all Saints are saying is that it is "Comfortably the highest received by the club for an Academy graduate"

That record was held by Luke Shaw who went to Manchester United in 2014 for a fee said to be around £36 million.

The assumption is that to get the deal done Everton have had to pay somewhere between £36-$0 million as a down payment plus £6 million in add ons and a 20% sell on clause, that is good money for a player who has played just 33 Premier League games for the club, plus 2 in the Championship.

For Saints it is a big chunk that will enable them to spend in the final week of the transfer window.

But will Dibling find the grass greener at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, he will face stern opposition for a place in the starting line up, some claim that he will be 5th in line for a position out wide and with Everton's wide men starring in their win over Brighton including Ndiaye who scored the opener in the game playing in the wide right position , it will not be easy.

It is sad to see him go, a year ago he seemed keen to stay and continue his footballing education at the club, back then he was putting career progression above money, but a change of agents seemed to see a change of attitude and his priorities altered.

But Saints fans will wish him all the best, but there is not the sense of disappointment in his leaving that there was when youngsters such as Gareth Bale, Luke Shaw and Tino Livramento have left.

The fans never really felt a connection with him and although Saints fans know he will prosper elsewhere and enjoy a successful career, the feeling is that we are better taking the money now and using it wisely rather than keeping Tyler Dibling.

Good luck to him. He is a great talent but still has a lot to learn. The quoted fee, decent for a young player, shouldn't place too much pressure on him. Best of luck Tyler.

Hopefully this is the start of a busy week reshaping the squad in key areas.

Good for all concerned- there's a lot of potential there - but there's a lot of ACTUAL money for saints in the deal
Best of luck to him
