One of the greatest musical artist of the 20th century .

His work from Man who sold the World to Scary Monsters is untouchable and he made masses of great work since.

I'm gutted a great loss.

RIP Mr Jones.

Unbelievable totally out of the blue this news.

A legend of his era who most certainly gave me hours upon hours of wonderful, youthful musical indulgence throughout the 70's & 80's.

RIP Starman.

Makes you feel old when your childhood popstars start dieing off. Two gone this year already, surely more to follow through old age or illness soon.

Didnt he used to holiday down here as a nipper/young teen?

No doubt he bumped into some characters that shaped his creativity!

A genius I feel.

Changed it because of Davy Jones of the Monkees.

RIP one of my favourite albums back in the day..'bowie pin ups'.

On a weird note just reading the Mail and they have an interview with his ex wife Angle, obviously before this sad news.

There was a morbid thread about the first celebrity to pass away this year, did anyone go for him?

Yep.

A great riff so simple a proper guitarist wouldn't have thought it up!

RIP and all that, but I never 'got' Bowie. I just saw him as some lad that liked to wear make-up and produce bog average music.

All i'm hearing today is how he was so influential, iconic and pioneering. I even heard one rent-a-quote from some nobody saying how his music was so magical it would transport you to a whole new world.

What am I missing here?

I have to agree.

Very sad to hear of his death but the media do go a bit over the top, the BBC spent the first 15 minutes of this afternoons news bulletin paying tribute to him.

I'm a boring bas tard and tend to repeat myself, so I will once again.

I've always had a fascination with the good old US of A and how they cover the news. My own benchmark of 'greatness' is by going on the US today newspaper website and looking at their headline news.

Often find it surprising those 'British' acts who have made it over there and those who haven't.

As soon as the news of David Bowie's passing emerged, it was all over the USA today website. Headline news.

A true legend, regardless of some of the absurd posts on this thread suggest.
