A further 87 deaths today and the total is now around 420, watching the news tonight and there were lots of irresponsible people exercising in parks etc. There’s plenty of people taking the p... down here, but London looks to be heading out of control. |
500 beds initially. More space available if needed. https://www.bbc.com/news/health-52018477

Agreed. And the correlation between bosses that have always been gits and those behaving worst now is unsurprising. Including the utter scumbags that own Wetherspoons and Sports Direct.

The markets are reactive to rumour and empty promises as much as anything else. Which is why they've been rebounding every Tuesday after each weekend futures bloodbath as Trump panics and announces some more suicidal or fantastical policies/inventions/miracle cures on the Monday. They don't have a crystal ball, and most of the people involved only make money when the value of the whole market is consistently rising. Trump is promising companies $2 trillion in bailouts so stocks will go up briefly (as the majority of bailout money is used for stock buybacks) but then plummet again when they realise that yeah, it's still a global pandemic. Or if the democrats simply delay the bill another week (easy now that a fair number of Rep senators are in isolation).

“ most of the people involved only make money when the value of the whole market is consistently rising” Actually most money is made when the market is bouncing around like it is at the moment. As much money is made by it nose diving as increasing. Just sometimes different people make it. sometimes the same. Always the richest make most. It’s gone up today because Trump has decided to put the US economy before the health of the nation. He may not be able to stick with that, but that’s what he’s done for now at least. he can’t stand the fact China is recovering. And he’s a psychopath.

It ain't I'm afraid. Whether we like it or not, we live in a society which is intrinsically linked to the markets. I presume you have a pension going.....you're intelligent enough to know that the capitalist machine is currently working on it... [Post edited 24 Mar 2020 21:00]

I understand the way it works. I’ve worked around the industry for 30 years or more. The markets do not have the ‘best scientists’ advising. They are reacting to news - the same news are we are all seeing. The notion of perfect market information is a nonsense. Today, the reaction was because of the US deciding For now at least to prioritise their economy over health.

We don't have the repetitive cough nor a high temperature and some of these symptoms are things I pretty much always have, like a bad belly, loose stools. My wife always seems to have a headache which her specialist says is a side effect of her anticonvulsants. Don't they say to look out for new symptoms? We've not had new symptoms. Today was quite productive, myself and my son went to work on the garden, it was quite nice really. Soon I'll be taking my allowed exercise, there's no one about so it's a late night dog walk. Our street has been quiet, not much movement, most of the cars haven't moved for a few days. Next doors did but only because he works for a firm that supplies oxygen to the NHS which is obviously an essential. Most other people (close by) are being good. and there's a lot of elderly around here anyway. Reading about London it just keeps reinforcing how not living in a big city is a really good thing.

Yes mate. We havnt left the house since Wednesday last week. Everyone is fine and happy. Just between us 4 in this house we have had stinking colds. Plenty of sneezing, running noses,. The flu is going around my work, family and friends also. Is this all just a coincidence?

Most of my neighbours (us too) have had colds/coughs/bad chests these last few weeks before Corona took hold, my immediate neighbour reckons this has been around a lot longer than we're being told but she also reckons China did this on purpose! I just took my allowed exercise, was out about 20 mins, took the dog about half our usual walk and the plan seems sensible because we literally saw nobody, heard a few cars in the distance but nobody else out on foot. Being a night owl has it's advantages!

Thank goodness for the NHS, it’s free, so if you get cvd19 there’s no congestion charge there either.

Yeah, I’ve just been out with the old girl (and the dog). About 35 minutes, a mile and a half around a residential area and we saw one person also with a dog. Not a single car on the move. I suppose there’s nowhere to go at night now.

There's no charge but lots of congestion. Sorry to be flippant. Did I see that Camerons advisor admitted today that austerity had cost 130,000 needless deaths, the same fell who recommended the 37 billion of cuts AND wanted 25 billion of further cuts. Imagine where we'd be if those extra cuts had happened? The NHS would already have collapsed, the schools and police too possibly and this steaming great t(_)rd chooses now to say this.

Masks are okay when dealing with airborne nasties, but my understanding of cvd19 is that it’s not [airborne]. And that you’ve got to get is about your person somewhere (a finger?) and then stick that in your gob. Or eye?

Oh no, if someone coughs and a tiny bit of moisture gets close to your face you can breathe it in and get infected. An FFP3 mask is what you need, you'd still need to keep your hands away from your face and wash them thoroughly for 20 seconds when you get home.
