You are right, the NHS in Wales is as bad if not worse than the NHS in England.
It’s not straight forward, but there are lots of reasons including a general lack of funding, political ideology and interference, location and rurality are others, difficulty attracting staff - lots of bright young things gravitate towards the big cities where they well get more exposure and opportunities to specialise, work with eminent professionals etc etc. The specialist teaching hospitals are generally located in Cardiff and Swansea, after that it’s Bristol, Stoke, London etc.
There are social issues as well including poverty, poor diet, reduced life expectancy, older ageing population placing further strain on resources.
My personal belief is that a lot of governments took their eye off the ball and weren’t prepared for this and our government is no Different. Hopefully there will be a big review after this and lessons will be learned and where there is neglect people will be held to account, what I find shocking are these stories of staff being expected to do their job without PPE and I am also concerned to hear the stories about the “mix up” with the ventilators. | | | |

The figures that I saw on ICU provision come from a coronavirus presentation by an Infection Control Practitioner from the Merseyside area.
ICU provision per 100,000 population in Germany - 29.2 beds
Italy - 12.5 beds and UK 6.6 beds per 100,000 population.
It's quite possible that these temporary Nightingale hospitals will be very much required. |  | | |

Why should the US pay for their security? Or the Canadians? Or us?
Them taking a private plane down to California during a lockdown is one of the most selfish, moronic things they’ve done, which is saying something about the whole lot of them.
How many bedrooms are sitting empty In central London in their properties that could be used by essential workers isolating? Complete waste of space the whole lot of them. When the country Is looking for leaders, they’ve run away. | | | |

Regarding a ventilator offered by Worcester-based Gtech, a government spokesperson said the plans were rejected by the Technical Design Authority, which includes a panel of clinicians.
“Unfortunately the Gtech ventilator model did not pass the government’s stringent safety tests and we will not be proceeding further,” the spokesperson said.
A firm called Direct Access claimed to be able to import 5,000 ventilators within a week and a further 20,000 within the month. The government said the plans “did not stand up to due diligence”. |  |
