Russia invade Ukraine 14:17 - Dec 23 with 207864 viewsFlynnidine_Zidownes

Discuss.

Also why is Putin always described in the media as this rugged strongman? He’s barely five foot tall with his high heels on.

But that’s another debate.

"Komsomolskaya Pravda, the pro-Kremlin tabloid, says that according to Russian ministry of defence numbers, 9,861 Russian soldiers died in Ukraine and 16,153 were injured.

"The last official Russian KIA figure, on March 2, was 498. Fascinating that someone posted the leaked number.

"Either KP has been hacked or someone there got the leaked numbers and posted them."

Yes, because what is posted online is so very reliable!

Social media and websites run by unknown people are obviously the best place to get important news.

Will you never learn.

PS, haven't you realised how much the Russian state controls their news output?

They seem to be losing a lot of that control recently.

Yes they have because good people have refused to accept the BS anymore and stood up to be counted.

There are people on here though who probably think the Russian news worker with the poster screaming stop the war, they are lying to us is probably a Western government stooge and it's merely more MSM disinformation.

Yet that bloke in a home made "bombproof" basement in Oklahoma has somehow managed to gather all the true facts and shares them with everybody so we can all see the truth!

They put out the recording of a telephone call to the FSB in which it was revealed on of their 1-Star generals was killed.

I dont doubt that they have other avenues of SIGINT but the fact still remains that the Russki's effed any chance of using their own secure comms.

Putin is combing the '5th Service' of the FSB for Western spies.
In the last week he has suspended Sergei Beseda (Head of the '5th Service') and detained them.

Look it up.

Ukraine have claimed to have killed another general. Also another video taken by Russian soldiers shows a colonel being deliberately ran over by his own men causing serious leg injuries.

Russians in retreat in many towns and villages around Kyiv and aren’t making much progress elsewhere either.

Apart from that it’s going great.

Do they have time though? Morale is low. Generals being picked off for fun. Sanctions beginning to bite, the vultures are circling for Vladimir. Your boys are taking a proper arse kicking so far.

Good to see a robust response from J K Rowling to Putin's crass attempts to compare the West's sanctions on Russian Culture to the cancel Culture that JK Rowling suffered.
She said "critiques of Western Cancel Culture are best not made by those currently slaughtering civilians, or who jail and poison their critics.

She also condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Wonder if Putin will order all her books to be banned in Russia.

Makes you wonder, with things going so badly, why hasn't Putin sent in reinforcements? Why has he asked for help from places like Syria?

All this Russia loving stuff flies in the face of evidence. They are getting mullered in Ukraine and being forced to retreat around parts of Kyiv, the area is littered with destroyed Russian armour.

We don't get told what's really happening. I've heard so much propaganda nonsense, like Russian missiles are failing to explode, tanks bogged down in mud and soldiers with frostbite. That simply doesn't happen with modern armies

"That simply doesn't happen with modern armies"

...and there it is. For the most part Russia's army is not modern. A centralised, from the top, command and control chain with a negligible to nonexistent NCO cadre utilising early post war doctrine. It is also notable you mention propaganda and western nations "claims" but you have never referenced Russia's claims as propaganda.

FFS Really , you missed have missed the fact that we're going into spring ( you know when the ground thaws) and in Ukraine they do seem a have a bit of white stuff which is now melting , ground becomes soft and with the shelling pretty uneven . Weather temperatures in Kiev for example temperatures increase by 8°C, from 2°C to 9°C, rarely falling below -5°C or exceeding 16°C. Frostbite well you can suffer that in this country let alone spending days/nights in a shell scrape ( they could take a chance and remain snug and warm in their AFVs but looking at the accuracy of the Ukraine's anti tank weaponry Ivan possibly thought that's not such as good idea plus the fact they're running out of fuel to keep the heaters on . All shells have a capability of failing to explode , certainly those designed to detonate on impact,. Accept the fact the the Russian army is big on numbers but this campaign this far has shown little or poor leadership , little direction and just as importantly the guys doing the fighting ,desire or belief in Putins cause . As Djack posted the upper echelons of the Russian military has never relied on its NCO's etc to take control on the grounf d, always looking for direction from above , hence the amount of generals etc meeting their maker , long may it continue

Total nonsense mate,. This isn't ww2 The Russians would have been prepared for this and well supplied. Russia is a lot colder than the Ukraine. There hasn't been any significant ground snow in Kiev in march. Russian tanks didn't get bogged down in the horrendous mud of ww2, where conditions were much worse ,while the German ones tended to. Russian missile technology is first class, probably the worlds best. Generals do not usually fight on the frontline, they are usually in Divisional HQ or similar

I'm sure the Ukranians are holding their own and excellent if they are, but if it carries on then attrition will wear them down soon enough, but i'm skeptical of the reports that are coming back and we have to be realistic

That is the difference between us though, I know that every news channel, every journalist, every report has innate bias, as opposed to the internet which spreads straight lies and disinformation equally as much as it tells the truth BUT even that truth has the innate bias, just like the MSM.

You don't think that a modern army can fall foul of the weather? That's ridiculous. I remember the British army having SA80's that didn't work out in the Gulf war because the sand had gotten into the mechanisms, soldiers in full kit still got heatstroke, my mate in the RAf regiment got heatstroke on duty at an airbase.

The cold is just as bad, too long out in the open in cold weather and it will still affect even the very best clothed soldier and if the mud is deep enough it will still bog down a tank because there wont be any traction.

The British army and it's equipment wasn't used to those conditions, the Russian army is. It holds drills in Siberia. A well clothed person won't get frostbite unless they are careless and trained soldiers know all the hazards.Tanks were using roads in the Ukraine, Russia during operation Barbarossa didn't have roads, and even then, Russian tanks moved through the mud while the German ones didn't.

You consider it “nonsense propaganda” when it paints Russia in a bad light but when the Russian ministry of truth issues a statement condemning Ukrainian kindergarten nazi toddlers for viciously and aggressively head butting the heroic Russian peacekeeping vacuum bombs you accept it without question.

I really don’t understand your “love in” with the Russians. I’m pretty sure Russia and Putin thought this would be all over in a matter of days, the fact it isn’t suggests they got it wrong. The number of Generals who’ve died also suggests things aren’t going to plan.

The BBC and other major organisations have people on the ground who are giving us their accounts, do you believe them or the Russian news outlets?

I agree with you about the attrition of the Ukrainian forces, but they are being armed with decent anti tank weaponry and as lng as they get the supplies they need they can push on. AirPower is something they will need more of.
