What was once "a Ukrainian neo-Nazi paramilitary organization" which even the FBI said is notorious for its “association with neo-Nazi ideology” was first relabeled as merely "far right" before it became a normal "unit in the Ukrainian military
It is not that Azov has de-radicalized over time. It has in fact grown more extreme.
Azov has infiltrated other organizations, especially some units of the Ukrainian regular military, the national guard, the police and the internal secret security organization SBU. Azov is by far not the only fascist (para-)military organization in Ukraine. There is the Aidar battalion, the Right Sector, the C-14 'youth' organization of the fascist Svoboda party as well as a dozen other such organization.
These groups are not only not prohibited as they should be but get encouraged and partially financed by the Ukrainian government.

In the interests of balance I have little doubt that the Ukrainians embellish events as well, they are playing the propaganda war very effectively. And we should take that into consideration. But if you take out all the media reports and the claims from both sides and the alleged war crimes and just look at the facts at the most basic level it should be obvious to anyone who hasn’t plummeted irretrievably down an incel conspiracy website shaped rabbit hole that this whole situation is the result of the decision of one man to launch a full scale invasion of a neighbouring country. If that decision was not made then millions of people would still be living peacefully in their homes going about their own day to day lives with their friends and family.
What we have now is cities reduced to rubble, a diaspora of people desperately fleeing west across the continent and thousands of dead bodies littering the streets.
And for what? What has that little baldy scrotum sack actually achieved?

I couldn't agree more , but intelligent folk can also understand the reasons for a particular side which pushes their propaganda agenda . As you say Russia is seen throughout the majority of free thinking world as the aggressor , therefore with an eye on the future and whether they would admit or not must realise that what ever the outcome Russia's standing in the world has been severely diminished and has pushed it back decades in terms of cooperation and détente .They're committing war crimes not seen for decades and will be held accountable at some point so they need to counter any claims with they own version of events .Social media is another form of warfare but this for the hearts and minds of those weak in thought , gullible or who have their own view on events and need justification of why they think the way they do . | |
