Me and a dozen mates went to Oktoberfest 2004 - just to drink for one day. Flights, overnight hotel, trains, beer (and minimal food).
Twenty pints consumed, £500 spent, therefore effectively an average of £25 per pint.

100% of people who drink water will die.

And that's 2004 prices - so roughly £68 a pint in today's money.

Years ago was in a Bournemouth hotel bar and we asked barman as we saw i think a jeraboam bottle of champagne in there and asked if anyone had ever bought it.

It was humongous.

Anyhow yes he said a woman was in there with two of her mates celebrating her divorce and she bought this bottle and the cost was astronomical.

£2500..

Her divorce settlement must have been decent !!!

Impossible for them to drink even a small percentage of it though but he said she said it was symbolic or words to that effect !!!

That's extortionate, but it does feel that it's getting to the point where, for restaurants to survive, they have to charge more then we can afford.
My locals charge between £3.50 - £4.50 a pint, which, given the costs involved, I'm happy with. I'll often pop in on the dog walk, but I've noticed it's more and more the alcoholics there, they are harmless but boring, talking shite. It's a downwards spiral.
Wetherspoons have announced they are opening their first pub here, taking over the most popular young persons venue in Douglas. Now, I don't have an issue per se with that chain, and I certainly wouldn't if we were paying over the odds for a pint, but we're not, and I fear for the locals.
