Apparently, there was a "big" "Derby" today 19:42 - Mar 22 with 1158 viewsSouthamptonfan

Empty seats everwhere. If this isn't proof that there is very little interest in women's football, I dont know what is. I went to Easteigh, and so did many others, who didnt even know that the Saints women were playing.

Cool, I went to Basingstoke who lost 1-0, saw a fight, away fans moved to opposite, lots of anger, it was what st Mary’s should be like.
Who won btw?

There were indeed plenty of empty seats, although for context the attendance was still higher than Eastleigh's. The club have been hyping up the fixture for months on social media so I'm not sure how any Saints fans wouldn't have known about it. Given the publicity, I was surprised there weren't a few more people there, although Saints' current form (no wins in eight) and the general malaise towards the club in general, probably didn't help.
I only go along to a couple of women's games a season and this was the first one since a few of our better players apprently left the club. The first 15 minutes or so were pretty dreadful (in my opinion of course), every pass went astray, the first touch was generally the last, and it looked as if all the forwards on both sides had been having shooting lessons from Kamaldeen. However, things did improve, and once you lower your expections a bit and accept the standard for what it is, I actually quite enjoyed it. It was end to end alright, although in fairness that was generally more to do with passes going astray in the final third than any particularly good pieces of play from either team. Saints do have a couple of decent players: Peploe in midfield stood out and the two central defenders looked quite assured, and the keeper made some important saves, especially a match-saving one right at the end.
Pompey should probably have won the match, and had they had a decent striker they almost certainly would have. Goalscorers are obviously at a premium at this level.
A couple of things stood out. In complete contrast to the Wolves game last week there was none of the cheating/time wasting b*llocks. They get fouled, they get up and they get on with it, and everyone seems to respect the referee's decisions. I wish this was the case with the mens' game. Secondly, and this may shock and disappoint a few people on here, but there were Pompey fans drinking and mixing with Saints fans in the bar before the game, hardly any police or stewards around. The atmosphere wasn't aggressive at all. Contrast this to what will inevitably happen next season (granted, I fully understand that many reading this will actually be looking forward to this aspect of the derby - see Cocklebreath's post above!!).
So, all in all I quite enjoyed the match, and for the first time this year I actually came away from St Mary's not moaning about seeing yet another Saints defeat.

Sounds like lots of aggro! Eastleigh lost 2 1 to Southend. Southend brought down what looked like about 1000 fans, they were loud and full of support for their team. Eastleigh played ok, but Southend just about deserved to win. Where do Basingstoke play now, same place?

"A couple of things stood out"

And there was me taking your report on the ladies game seriously!

I wholly disapprove of what you say and will defend to the death your right to say it.

been a long running saga where the old owner wanted to build houses on the land but there was a covenant saying it had to stay as a football stadium, turns out the local council couldn’t give a sh!t about the club and the ground is gonna be demolished, currently playing at Hampshire FA headquarters in winklebury, capacity about 2000
So even if they get promoted they can’t move up a division as ground too small.

It ended Saints 0-0 Skates
I think they have struggled to find a manager as good as Marianne Spacey-Cale was - she’s been moved up to oversee the operation of the whole female side of the Club but she’s a hard act to follow at team management level - and that’s without even factoring in SR’s track record on managerial appointments!! That said, when MS-C moved up quite a few of the best players left so the new manager had their work cut out to be fair…
