Gary Neville Comments re Manchester Derby 22:57 - Apr 6 with 837 views | cimlaswan | "The game was so robotic and it's symptomatic of a lot of games that we're watching nowadays." "The best Man City and Man United teams would be very disappointed with the way they've approached the end of that game." "It looks like it's Sunday afternoon and they're going to go for a roast dinner together now." Being micromanaged within an inch of our lives, of not having any freedom to take a risk to go and try and win a football match, it's becoming a disease in the game." "Pep Guardiola and his teams over the last 10 years, that's what his teams do." "But we're seeing poor imitations of that across the board now. United's goalkeeper rolling his foot on the ball and waiting for things to happen. "That's not it, that's not what this club is, that's not what we do here. Liverpool don't do that." The game today really was quite depressing for me." "And the Premier League is about excitement, it's about thrill, it's about risk. And there was nothing like that in that game, so that's not good enough." Being honest I agree with a lot of what of he says. We saw a cracking game earlier between Fulham And Liverpool but that seems to be an exception rather then the rule. I know things evolve and change over time but I do wonder if other people agree with his points or If I've now reached the the point in life where I've just turned into my Dad and become an old fogey.

My interest has been on the wane for the last few years, and I'm wondering if it's due in part to the fact that teams that are being bankrolled to win everything are slowly sucking the life out of the game for the rest of us.

I think it's more that the game has devolved into one where identical systems comprised of individuals who have been micromanaged to within an inch of their lives play each other and generally the team with the best robots wins. At all levels football is riddled with Poundshop Peps desperately trying to copy their idol and the levels of entertainment are declining accordingly. We're at the point where a club willing to do something a bit different, like Liverpool have this season, can really make an impact. Sadly the noises coming from us so far suggest more of the same.

Fully agree, but live in hope we do see more tempo in our game next season, especially around the opponents box. Then again I am becoming an old fogey.

The micromanaging is the issue. All teams need to have a tactical set up and structure, but players should be able to use that as the basis to play from not be constricted by it.
Gary Neville Comments re Manchester Derby on 10:31 - Apr 7 with 513 views | pencoedjack | Agree I used to watch most football on TV from CL to Championship & nearly all PL games. Although I do enjoy the odd PL game, it's becoming boring, & I find it hard to watch Swansea games for the full 90 minutes. A Manchester derby lacking any passion sums up football today.
Gary Neville Comments re Manchester Derby on 11:25 - Apr 7 with 459 views | ReslovenSwan1 | A curate passing under pressure will never go out of useful Ness Passing with accuracy and tempo. We saw it with Laudrup. Britton Routledge Dyer Hernandez De Guzman. Accuracy balance and efficiency with tempo and pace..

Yes. A player should be free to take his defender on, not stop and pass to someone else in space. Going right back as far as Cooper's lack of use for Celina and Peterson you can see how we've moved away from that. Any kind of serious pace or flair has been coached out of all of them since. They've just been told to play the numbers. Stick to the "process", even when that clearly doesn't work and/or is tedious to watch.

The Prem is nowhere near the league it was 20 years ago. the Pep imitations is a big factor. I used to watch games to see players like Robben, Okocha, CR7, Torres and Rooney even take on players and offer something different. It doesn't happen anymore. Take Grealish, was a relatively exciting player at Villa and now at City all individuality and flairs been coached out of him. Supporter opinions and the sensationalisation (if that's a word) of results, stats, form have not helped. 3 wins and the titles on, 3 defeats and the managers a fraud and the players are donkeys. Supporters of all clubs have had doom-mongers but not social media which create echo chambers. Another is atmosphere, the Manchester derby could've been a friendly and no one would know the difference. Southampton fans online are taking solace that at least the championship has real fans, no VAR and no plastics (possible sour grapes) but if the Prem is the top tier and by the nature of competition every club should be stiving to compete with the best what do you do? and that before you consider the money factor. I don't know what the solution is. In ref to Garys points maybe the fashion will change again and the game will move on but I suppose as long as there's a worldwide fanbase for this current product the established fans will be considered an after thought.

The game is stats and data driven and its spoiling the game, I didn't see that particular game myself, but it's clear to see the way the current game as gone. Football people are being taken over by statistician's, which will end up turning the game into a borefest, unless those at top get a grip.

Aye Russell Martin & his 'process' being a prime example. The most boring football I have witnessed in 40-odd years of following the Swans.

Agree with some of your points. VAR & Pep-style football mimickers are big culprits. Interesting comments from Spur's Postecoglou re: VAR. There's a lot of truth in what he's saying about VAR. Clear & egregious errors only that can be quickly determined (less than 30 seconds), please! Decisions taking two minutes or more is ruining the game!
Gary Neville Comments re Manchester Derby on 18:44 - Apr 7 with 131 views | SullutaCreturned | I've been saying it for years. What we saw under Russell Martin, what we see on tv every week, this turgid, slow, boring nonsense where possession seems to be more important than goals, where not losing is more important than winning and even worse, we've had young people singing this boring shits praises. Some people here loved Russell Martin and his possession at all costs mantra but it's a prime reason why the Swans are where they are with crowds dropped off and struggling to get them back. We want to be netertained not bored to sleep. Gary Neville is 100% right.
