It is not good for business to have two or three bank holidays for Wales Scotland Ireland and England. Many companies have regional offices and projects need to be finished by working together.
With each bank holiday 3-4 days work will be lost because a key worker cannot complete a piece of works with a strict deadline. Wales is not a separate island state..
I had a chat with a Neath person the other day and many laid off workers were ambivalent about Port Talbot downsizing as many of those released were getting on in age and happy to take a pay off and pension. I am not saying this is widespread and clearly not good for south Wales. At least the locals lungs will improve especially the young children.
The raw steel requirement for the British army is limited I would think. UK has only a few hundred tanks and fighting vehicles with quality over quantity the target. Drones a are the military of the future. Ships and tanks are looking very vulnerable.
The Royal Navy with two giant aircraft carriers needs to keep them well out of missile range. Perhaps this is why they are talking of selling one off. [Post edited 13 Apr 14:00]

They do need to wake up. The first thing they need to do is vote in the first place, we don't always vote Labour, most people don't vote at all. That allows Welsh Labour to rely on their traditional support.
I don't understand how the public have been so complacent and let the Senedd get away with things for so long. NHS is in a mess - that's ok, education is rubbish - that doesn't bother me, stupidly strict covid restrictions - lets allow them to get a working majority again, Cardiff gets everything (including first minister constituencies) - Fine by me.

If Wind power can be artificially subsidised then energy for Steelworks and other big users can also be subsidised as big users on a the cheaper long term deal.
Wylfa Nuclear power station used to sell cheap electricity to the Aluminium works on Anglesey in the past. These plants should be working 24 hours and using nuclear and wind power at off peak rates. When Wylfa shut down so did the aluminium works.
Port Talbot is not closing. Younger workers will keep their jobs while the older works take redundancy. These jobs will be cleaner and hopefully more secure.

Port Talbot will make the most of those facilities due to its Freeport status, we could end up with more jobs than were at Tata. Two of the UK Freeport's are in Wales.

I think the suggestion is that hydrogen can be used as the reducing gas to process iron ore via a DRI process. The sponge iron produced contains elemental carbon, but has a lower carbon content than pig iron.

The lumps or pellets produced (the sponge iron) can then be converted to steel in an electric arc furnace or electric smelting furnace.. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, this is what Tata are planning to do in the next few years in their Dutch plant. They have signed a contract to build a DRI plant that can use hydrogen, including in various mixes with other gases.
