Not looking good for next season, but hardly surprising though

If you read the original Portugese article , the English version takes a few liberties to spin the story.

The strapline said "Southampton midfielder makes no secret of his desire to one day return to the club where he was trained"

Fernandes was speaking about his gratitude to Sporting and said that he one day hopes to go back, the words "One Day" suggest not at the moment.

I don't expect Fernandes to be here next season, but this story shows how the rumour mill works, it turns the context of words to mean something different.

I suspect he is brushing up on his Turkish in advance of a season-long loan to Goztepe.

As you say, it's rumour mongering as well as (potential) headline making, probably a bit of agent talk in there as well.

I was really hoping he'd stay and you never know, we could build a promotion seeking team around him. But if he does go, I'd rather it was back to Sporting.

There was also a similar article a few months ago with headline grabbing "Fernandes not happy at Saints " due to being on his own in a strange city. What the article omitted was the full story that this was when he first arrived only and was more than happy now

Still, what can we do about it other than again whinge at SR, well it must be their fault 😕
