I want Varane to stay but lets not go too OTT about his abilities, he is a long way away from being 'proper'.........taking away 'what might be', I would have Field (& Colback) picked ahead of him because he is more beneficial to to team atm.

Sam Field can’t trap a football and that’s why people start threads about him playing at CB, or managers have played him in advanced midfield positions. We all love Sam and want him out there, but he makes us static playing in DM. The prime suspect when it comes to playing it back to the defence, as he has no confident command of the ball. Whilst Varane isn’t perfect, he’s head and shoulders ahead of Field with the ball

Personally I don't see why any players length of contract, salary, bonuses, add on's etc should be divulged.

What right so we have to know this? I pay more money (by a long way) to the likes of Sainsbury's and Tesco's each year but I don't insist/demand etc to know the in's and out's of the staffs salary details.

I know football is a different beast to more 'normal' businesses but there is a line IMO.

There's a fan obsession with this in football.

I don't know about you, but I don't support a supermarket. I shop around here and there and tend not to be interested in their results or how much their top execs earn. It wouldn't bother me if any of them went bust because I could go somewhere else.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

I hope the point I was trying to make was clear, it was not and nor intended to be a like-for-like example to then get pulled apart.

Big season ahead for Varane. Clubs are looking at him, and I guess it's been agreed that next summer (if his upward trajectory continues), we'll cash in. So he'll be well motivated, and I think he'll do well. Right now he's probably our biggest asset.

Those cheeky bids this summer were probably too low, and came from un-inspiring teams not enough to force a move just yet.

Was listening to preview Patreon today and seemed to be suggesting that he may yet go this summer and bids coming in ( that was the impression I got from Clives comments ). If that is true we are really gonna need to invest in CM - horribly light as it is

Hopefully they have identified a possible replacement to quickly plug that gap because as you say we are already deficient there. If it is not too unrealistic I hope they can find someone who already knows how to receive a ball on the half turn and pass forwards, yet also have the ability to tackle. Maybe we just can't get someone on our budgets, but oh for a modern day John Gregory.

from the realms of x it seems morgan is being lined up to replace field in the centre , obv thats if varanne does stay and i think he wont be here in sept , morgan has potential but can he handle the three games weeks playing every single game at the intensity we need ? he stuggled badly for fitness last season due to his age but big ask either way

I don't disagree that social media can get antagonistic like that, but I'm not trying to be arsey or score points - you made an assertion, I challenged it. Isn't that how debate works?

Good example of how analogies rarely work, though.

He was burnt out after 60 mins against Brentford. No where near ready for a 3 game week, can barely get through 90 minutes. Two seasons away from replacing Field, if indeed that’s the plan.

That’s what x is saying he’s the reason we haven’t been desperate to replace Colback as morgan is the answer , uteri madness and have to feel for morgan as he’ll be treading mud again by October if varanne leaves or field is injured ,
