I don’t get this desperate clamour to know the length of players contracts. It makes not one jot of difference to me if it’s a one year extension or three years; there’s FA I can do about it and I’m not sure why some supporters seem to feel that they are entitled to know. |

Varane has been good, bad & indifferent this season......goes backwards too much but should improve a be a better player with more game time & experience.
I fully support an extension to his contract, he has shown good potential and may prove to be an excellent overall signing.

It's unalloyed good news about Varane. He's relatively young, plays in an important position and still has scope to develop. I suspect, he will be a future sellable asset. So, to tie him down to a long term deal, even if contract length is unspecified, must be a step in the right direction.
Potentially, more good news re Smyth and Frey.
Such a pity that communication with the fans is so poor.

It's not about a principled 'right' to know something, everything or anything. For me it's about creating a space of uncertainty by consistently and brazenly withholding information.
Whilst my life wouldn't be greatly enriched (or any different whatsoever) by knowing how long 'Jona' Varane is contracted to QPR... Withholding information from fans creates a void than can and will only be filled with speculation and will create a sense of distrust in those that withhold the information. As 1JD pointed out - it's marketing or politics 101; relate to your paying customers / voters. There is nothing relatable to Christian Nourry to me whatsoever and over time that's bleeding into a similar sense with QPR too.
Here we are in a thread about a 23 year old QPR player that's pretty much universally popular signing an extended contract and it's got somewhat prickly with polarising views and people taking little swipes and making digs at one another. The communication style at the club for the last 18 months has created that space I'm afraid. It's classic dictatorship behaviour with some being somewhat blindly loyal to the cause and others questioning what they don't know. There's your divide. You can see it on almost every thread on here. This thread should only be divisive by opinions on Jon Varane. But it isn't. We're pretty much united on that but still arguing anyway. Pretty scary stuff for me and defines exactly what I don't like about the club under Nourry. [Post edited 9 May 8:56]

The language the guy uses is so devoid from reality it’s laughable. Frankly it doesn’t matter if it comes from chat GPT or it’s his own, he’s way off base trying to come across an upper class English language speaker. Rule number 1 of marketing: connect with your audience.
Secondly, I’m not sure how this is even news. He signed a long term deal and was contract protected. No danger of leaving or being poached for pennies. So he’s basically got a pay rise, that’s it. Varane also needs to be flipped next season regardless, when he’ll be 25. Any age over above that, his value will quickly depreciate. Again, he was well under contract for that particular outcome.
Thirdly, Jonathan Varane is not a ball carrying midfielder. One solo run against Sunderland, aside, over the course of a full season, was a complete anomaly. A true ball carrying centre midfielder is a Martin Rowlands, a Joe Rothwell type. Certainly not a Jonathan Varane based on his current skillset. |

It's actually nice to see one of our signings progressing like this.
At Sheff Utd and Blackburn A I was like 'wow, what have we bought here'.
He's been inconsistent since then. I'm doing the end of term reports atm and at one point in the middle of the year his ratings go 6,7,3,4,6,7. At Leicester we said he was 'the only QPR player on the pitch who looked at the level of the opposition' and then at Portsmouth he was fcking awful.
But you look at him at Oxford and Sunderland towards the end and you can see genuine progress, and also work being done on his faults. At the start he wouldn't turn around, now he's playing forwards more often.
The market we shop in you're never going to be able to buy a finished article or a player without fault. So you have to take a chance on prospects like this and work on them.
He's miles off finished but you can see travel in the right direction here, so that's a success story of sorts. | | | |

Both will be important squad members next season. |
Given Frey can barely complete 90 minutes once a week, let's hope he's not first choice striker for next season. As back up or option off the bench, fine. I mean I do like him and how he plays, reasonable scoring record, but physically he's not up to the rigours of a 46 game season.
Also depends if he accepts what we offer (given his alleged high wages). And what other offers he'll receive, can't imagine he'll get many but who knows. | |

If it makes no difference why are they telling us it's extended?
It does make a difference in that if he has a 2 year deal there is more understanding from fans if we sell him in January than if he has a 5 year deal, by keeping it secret from supporters there is no real advantage to be had |  | | |
