Great feature in the athletic. This is what football fans want to read.

I'd sat in that stand a few months earlier when we played Bradford. Never crossed my mind that it was a potential death trap.

The pictures of the fire and thinking what I might have done if it had happened when I was there played on my mind for a good while.

In the wooden Centre stand back in the sixties and seventies rubbish was allowed to accumulate including paper piled up below it. With gaps in the floor and people smoking dropping their cigarette buts, there but for the grace of God go some of us.

Have I dreamt this or was there a small fire under that stand at some time?

Yes.

Testing my memory here. I can’t remember what started it but looking at the main stand from the North Bank there was a section to the left of the half way line destroyed. You could see through to the houses behind

I can’t remember if it was the same season but yes I’d watched an away game there around that time.
A very claustrophobic stand from memory

There's a film of the fire developing often shown during presentations during fire risk assessment courses , its not something that easily forgotten .

1968 ish, about a third of the stand was lost offices/changing rooms, players used to change in the army place behindand enter from the corner by the DD. first home game after the fire was against Darlo i think. hot sunny day , atmosphere ? non existant.

The Swans were at home that day to Bristol Rovers, won 3-2.
I always thought I was at Wolves when we beat them 5-1. But I wasn’t there ! Memory has a way of messing with you. Thanks google šŸ˜‚ That was the season I didn’t go that much but was at Millwall for the opening day of the season when Swans supporters stormed the home end.

I sat in that stand around 1978, when on a junior rugby club tour in Yorkshire. I can still remember the fire news breaking live on Grandstand back in the day. There were many wooden stands around back in those days
