Internet - for OAPS 11:03 - May 26 with 987 viewsAguycalledJack

Hi. Hoping somebody can. Help with this.

Parents are in their mid 70s dont have sky or virgin tv etc but have expressed an interest in getting the Internet to help with banking etc. They have a BT phone line which i suppose would be the obvious choice but was wondering if anybody knew of any deals that they could get as OAPs.

Thanks.

All the major suppliers have a social tariff which offer reductions for pensioners, have a read up on it

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

It's shocking that so many banks have closeed so many branches that OAP's are forced into this. I only noticed this week that Barclays in Neath centre has closed.

You'll have to copy and paste but this is YouFibre who we are with, better speeds for cheaper than Sky or Virgin where we are,

It’s a bit of a minefield to be honest, lots of companies are withdrawing their products which offer internet and an old fashion landline as a bundle and are pushing people down the VOIP route. We were with Plusnet and had to change to EE.
My mother has a broadband and phone bundle, but never uses the internet which is only there so she can have a personal lifeline alarm in case she falls etc, she uses her phone though.

Been closed for a few weeks now. There used to be one in Skewen too as you are probably aware. I've been with Barclays for decades, but no service with them now, I just do online

Are YouFibre part of the compensation scheme ?

Where do your parents live aguycalledjack ?, if they live in an area that periodically suffers outages due to being a long way from the broadband box, more chance of line breaks, tree rub etc then perhaps it would be more reassuring to go with a provider in the scheme where you get compensation if you lose service but if the area never loses service perhaps the cheapest option from a provider that is not in the scheme might be best.
