Nick , you tease. You got me all excited with your headline with a picture of Will Smallbone prominent , only to find that it's Shea Charles you're on about.

Any way. We must keep Shea Charles. He'll be an asset this season.

"Of course this is just rumour at the moment, but with 2 years left on his contract Saints won't offload him cheaply, if Flynn Downes who kept him out of the side is worth £16 million, then Charles is worth at least £20 million."

How is Charles worth more than Downes who kept him out of the side?

Poll: Has the Ross Stewart deal already paid off as Nick says?

Sulemana kept Tyler Dibling out of the side, if we sold both in the summer who do you think would fetch the most money

Dibbling is English so you pay a premium, 18 and ridiculously hyped. Plus in the first half of the season he looked like a real talent. Charles ticks none of the above.

So what makes you think Charles who hasnt played in the premiership is worth more than Downes. Do you think Charles will start before Downes next season?

I think Charles is a better player than Downes, it seems that Charles season for Sheff Wednesday was better than Downes season in the Championship was for us.

I just feel that Charles is getting better and that Downes is at as high a level as he will get.

I think that Charles could well start before Downes next season, but I don't know enough about the new manager to make a call, if Rohl was now our manager I would definitely say that Charles would start ahead of Downes.

That's a big call to say Charles is better than Downes Nick.

I agree with Butty that I thought Charles looked pretty shaky with us in the 23/24 Season , whilst Downes was superb for us that season.

The question is whether Charles has significantly improved or the expectations and player quality at Wednesday are so low he may have just shone surrounded by mediocrity.

Can he shine along with Edwards where the pressure and expectation are miles higher.

What are you basing these statements on? I suspect you didnt see Charles play in a poor Wednesday team, other than the odd game on Sky. I didnt see him last season and only go on his performances for Saints where he came up short. Martin clearly came to the same conclusion.
What i do know was that in our promotion year Downes was the key player for Saints. He missed 10 games and we only got 8 points in those games.

I didnt see him play much no, but Wednesday were a solid mid table team who as the season neared its end looked like they might make a late challenge for the play offs.

I did see him play most games for Saints in the Championship and I thought he was unlucky not to play more than he did.

I thought Downes had a great season in the Championship, but he was a yard short of the pace in the premier League, he is at an age where he isnt going to get much better.

Charles at 20 in 2023/24 however is likely to improve, when he made his debut for Saints it was only his second ever game at first team level, his only other first team appearance a 27 min one as sub for Man City.

If we had played Charles and Downes in the same side this season, I don't think we would have been so weak in the centre of midfield

keep them both and sell Smallbone would be the best plan

Keep all 3 and sell Bazanu, sulemaa, tall Paul, Bednerek, Stephens, Diaz, Ramsdale, Manning, Archer.

I think Shea Charles would suit a more up-tempo style of play.

Rustyball was not good for him; his ball control and retention was sometimes erratic, and it stood out more in a slower style of play.

I think that if we are going to be more aggressive next season in our approach, this would suit him much more.

I think we would be daft to sell him if this is the way we are going to play.

Once Martin left , Ugochukwu came into his own. I dont think Charles would have been starting in front of him.

In championship terms , Charles was the 2nd most expensive purchase that season. For less money we could have had Winks.

I guess this is a sign that Leeds either do not have the money to spend, or are unable to spend big due to rules. They must realise he was part of a team that went down on almost the worst points level ever. If they do not target better than Downes, they are going straight back down.
