Assisted Dying Bill 17:43 - Jun 20 with 577 views | trampie | Some good news that the bill passed, but it was close, public polls I've seen say the public are 75% in favour of assisted dying, but mps being a law unto themselves were barely just over 50% for it, but at least it passed, no idea what the unelected House of Lords do, if they can scupper it or not, hope there are no problems and it becomes law.

Assisted Dying Bill on 18:10 - Jun 20 with 554 views | EagleEye | Most MPs are totally out of touch with their constituents and will often follow the best path to enhance their careers when voting . In fact most don’t give a toss about actually representing the needs of their constituencies at all

I also think that AMs are probably even worse once they are on the gravy train in the bay. I think all MPs & AMs should be limited to 2 or 3 terms in office. They need to focus on achieving some goals in that time instead of making a career out doing next to nothing for their electorate

Well it looks like quite a substantial clear out next year with AMs announcing their retirement plans, jumping before they have to jump some might say.

Imagine that, the elected people actually being held to account over their record! Well Welsh Labour made sure that won't happen, we don't even get to choose who we vote for, it'll be vote for the party and then they'll decide who gets the job. The Senedd is attacking democracy and still peoplemdefend them. On topic, I'm 100% behind this bill. I never understood why we refuse to let animals suffer yet we force humans to live on in agony, it's basically torture. Anyone who has had to endure a loved one dying a drawn out, agonising death may understand. Where I think the system will fail us is the House of Lords, I fullyexpect them to at least delay this bill and maybe even try to kill it. I hope I'm wrong.

Assisted Dying Bill on 16:54 - Jun 21 with 251 views | majorraglan | Going back to the original post, I too am in favour of introducing assisted dying, as long as there are robust safeguards in place which is something we can legislate for. Other countries, including Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain, Austria, Canada, and New Zealand have all introduced it. Additionally, assisted dying is legal in parts of the United States and all states in Australia. Colombia, Ecuador, and Italy have also had assisted dying legalized by their constitutional courts. Are we saying we can learn from best and poor practice in those countries? We should be looking to incorporate best practice and eliminating poor practice/mistakes those countries have identified from their reviews etc. It’s about giving people a choice and enabling them to decide for themselves. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Choice. Precisely. Listening to some of those Kill The Bill types it’s as if they think that doctors are going to make the decision against an individual’s will! “I think you’ve got 6 months to live mr Smith so just a sharp scratch”. The others opposing it on religious grounds, as an atheist I’m going to totally ignore. In my opinion, opposing this is a mean act and interfering in the welfare of those at end of life who may not want to suffer anymore. Let them have the choice.

You're right. Religion, the religious can make their own minds up but don't be forcing their opinion on others Doctors are saying this turns them into murderers, well it's not their decisioneither and besides, are they happier to be torturers? Part of their oath is to do no harm and isn't forcing people in extremem agony to have to carry on suffering, creating more harm? I can't say what I would do in that position but I would like to have a choice.
