I believe this would be a promotion season for The U's but there is one big obstacle. If the takeover is completed within the next couple of weeks fine. If it isn't finalised till late August transfer plans will probably be on hold.

There was reference a few weeks ago in the local paper to a substantially reduced budget while no new ownership is in place. The signing of the young fellow from Spurs was a positive but I fear the Cowleys' hands will be tied until Mr Cowling has been replaced.

It's always exciting when the fixtures are released but let's hope for some positive and even more exciting news from the boardroom soon.

Yes hopefully the takeover will complete soon and funds be released to.increase budget allowing DC to bring in some players as squad as it stands is relegation.material.

So pretty much the same squad, aside from a few players, that outperformed every team in the division apart from Doncaster and Bradford over the last 30 odd games is now "relegation material"? That's an interesting view to take. I'm sure Macey, Iandolo, Bishop, Payne, Edwards, Tovide et al probably don't see themselves as relegation fodder.

Six league games in August, two against promoted teams, two against relegated teams and two against teams from League Two last season.

Looks like a decent start to me. Bring it on!

Yes but playing the two newly promoted teams away in the first month isn't ideal.

I'm with you on this one RSC. If the squad remains substantially the same (a big if), then we are surely play off candidates at least.

The majority of last season's squad are under contract so unless we sell anyone (Edwards and/or Tovide perhaps) they'll all still be here come August. Obviously Kelleher has already signed elsewhere but hopefully Taylor, Flanagan, Egbo and Vincent-Young all decide to stay but even if they don't it frees up money for replacements and the nucleus of last year's squad remains plus we've got Oni to return and players like Lisbie, Jolliffe and Connolly are a year further on in their development. For me this the best position we've been in in the summer for quite some time.

Maybe, maybe not, but I suppose we've got to face them all at some point. To me, having four of our opening six games against teams who one way or another will be on a steep learning curve getting to grips with League 2 football isn't a bad thing.

Get your point but in the end squad fell short after super human efforts. Kells has gone and several others have yet to sign new contracts plus Taylor likely as not will not be ready for the new season. I am not convinced about Goodliffe as part of our central defence.
Squad as it stands is not large enough for a sustained promotion push imo.

Tough Carabao Cup fixture at Oxford United which will provide a real test of our abilities and desire for the season.
