The club is owned by David Clowes
He bought the club out of adminstration which means he did a deal with the creditors to give some of their money back. He paid £13.5m for the club and bought Pride Park for £1.

Administration give highly indebted clubs a bit of an advantage as most of their debts generated by the Frank Lampard era are washed clean.

For that reason there are point deductions. Derby obviously played well enough to avoid the drop despite losing points.
