Cost of Brexit exaggerated on 14:47 - Jul 29 by AnotherJohn | The other thing to factor in when considering trading volumes between the UK and the EU is the dire state of the economies of some of the major players. In the full year to Dec 2024 Germany's GDP fell by 0.2%, France's grew by 1.1% but with a ballooning national debt, and Italy's grew by 0.7%. The aggregated EU figure was GDP growth of 1.0%. The UK achieved GDP growth of 1.1% in that same period. This sluggish EU-wide GDP growth has little to do with Brexit (read in COVID, energy prices and the Ukraine war). When economists have modeled how the UK might have been expected to fare with and without Brexit, I do not think they fully predicted this wider context, which inevitably affects trading volumes. |
I think you're right and the big problem is that some people are so set in their ways that they will always inate bias to their point of view. Some will never countenance that brexit could, in the long run make us better off while some still won't accept that it is anything but good. Maybe that is true of the experts too and we know that a certain WEF major player was putting out biased information to suit his own ends.

In the US we call it the "Deep State". Same as in the US, most of the media is complicit, which is why you'll see very little coverage/investigative reporting on this story. This is a huge story; however, true journalism is practically dead.

Cost of Brexit exaggerated on 13:18 - Jul 29 by majorraglan | I think you’ll find the repayments on the national debt after Covid have something to go with it. Not saying Labour don’t bear some responsibility, but they’ve inherited a s@@@ show. Public services are a mess and Sunak stored up trouble with his NI reductions which we Goulding afford. |
The Tory/lib coalition inherited an even bigger shit show in 2010. Blair inherited a shit show. It’s been a shit show for the best part of four decades and the shit showeryness doesn’t seem to be abating anytime soon.

Blair inheroted a shitshow? When Tony Blair became Prime Minister in he inherited a growing economy, falling unemployment, and a strong pound. There was low inflation and the Bank of England had been granted independence. Spending to income ratio was at 39.9%. I think he inherited a much better situation than Starmer has.
Cost of Brexit exaggerated on 21:00 - Jul 29 with 107 views | Dr_Winston | Blair certainly inherited a very decent situation. New Labour won because people were tired of a Tory Govt that had been in power for nearly 20 years, not because things were shit. He then proceeded to piss all of that up against a wall, and create a political situation where all the Goverments following felt duty bound to keep copying his methods, which is one of the major reasons why the country is in such a mess at the minute. When the media, government, civil service, judiciary and academia have spent the last generation screaming that any fairly centrist thought, one that even a much more left wing Labour Govt of the past might have supported such as maybe immigration should be held to a reasonable amount is fascist, racist, far right or any other such slur, it's going to create a certain environment. We need to massively roll back Blairism. Root it out wherever it can be found and ensure that it and it's proponents can never hold power again.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |
