Slack Jack is at it again. 12:30 - Jul 26 with 2597 viewsGRIM

Slack Jack gives away a penalty in today's friendly.
He can always be relied upon to help the opposition.

Stephens quoted saying he is grateful for the Southampton new contract.

I bet he is.

Whilst not totally surprised (but disappointed) Stephens was given a new contract, and 3 years as well, it was the speed at which it was all agreed.

It was agreed before any of the pre-season friendlies, where he has continued the errors. What was the urgency ? Why couldn't WS wait until at least watching him in action and then decide. It's not as if we had to sign him quick to stop the clubs poaching him.

We should have let him go and given his salary to Fernandes to try and keep him.

Why would SR need to watch Slack Jack in pre season before deciding on giving him a contract, surely they've seen enough of his calamitous mistakes over the last couple of seasons to know that he's a liability.

It's inconceivable that they don't know just how bad he is.

The only explanation i can think of is that they are using him as a scapegoat to deflect criticism away from where its really due. SR itself.

I agree, we all know how much of liability he is, but WS would have only seen Stephens in a few training sessions and based on these, has supported a new contract. Unless, WS had no say in the matter ?

No say. That is really worrying because if the manager has his hands tied we will be going nowhere but down.

Poll: Should the BBC show Glastonbury or Wimbledon?

He will have seen him in the pre-seasons though !!

To be fair, the penalty that JS gave away v Espanyol was extremely harsh. A trailing arm and the defender went down like a sack of sh1t. No VAR, dodgy ref etc......

.....BUT for the assist he supplied their attack for the opening goal, he should have been subbed on the spot and put on the first flight home !! Absolutely ridiculous. He is not a Captain and does not lead by example.
