What are your thoughts, I’m thinking it’s a tough one for Sheehan.

However -

1. Sergej Jakirović Hull City
2. Phil Parkinson, Wrexham
3. Will Still, Southampton

Your three ?

I didn't say they were training sessions, I said that they were meaningless, in the way that the result doesn't count, its getting match fitness, playing different systems and developing relationships on the pitch that count.

Yes I agree, they should be competitive though.

You are utterly wrong
Meaningless only as we have been shite on every game so far
Thus far Sheehan looks horrific and a world away from the man who saved us last season
We should be asking why me have new coaching staff and players brought in early
Widell that good , we loaned him back after signing

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

9th August 2014 we lost 3-0 at home to Villarreal in pre-season. Seven days later we won at Old Trafford on the way to our best PL finish.

Sounds like a disappointing performance today, and clearly some players were missed, but it's no more of an indicator of the season to come than the other game was.

Still, the usual whingers need something to get them going.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Personally I don’t think he’s up to much cop. I’ve never been a fan of giving a caretaker manager the job full time. Historically it doesn’t work.
The football we played towards end of the season wasn’t great but it got the odd decent result.

I hope I’m wrong though and he smashes it. Top 10 should be the minimum aim this year

The odd decent result? 7 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats with what most of us thought was a weak squad? Tha's play off form. That's a fair bit better than the odd decent result.

It's not that I am certain we'll do well this season but just like any other manager, he deserves a chance and shouldn't be written off after a poor pre-season. We had a poor pre-season under Molby and made the play off final.

I do think you saying top 10 shoud be a minimum is expecting too much. We need to rebuild the sqiad, get rid of more dead wood and we still need 3 decent players. I'd be happy with mid table obscurity this season then look to push on next year.
There are still things wrong at the club because of the previous owners. These things don't get fixed very quickly. I'm happy we are heading in a better direction these days but Rome wasn't built in a day.

I'd be quite disappointed with mid table obscurity to be honest.

Last season Sheehan showed that he could galvanise a dispirited and disorganised squad to deliver the kind of playoff challenging results and performances that it was always capable of had it not been for the numpty in charge for most of the season.

He should be equally capable of doing the same for a squad he has at least had a hand in assembling.

What people need to grasp though is that it's not an immediate process. There seems to be a school of thought that demands everything be in place for day one of the season. Squad, tactics, style, performances, the lot. Not going to happen in the vast majority of cases.

A relegated team with parachute payment might be able to hold things together to that degree, but we don't have that luxury. It's going to be a long season, and it might take us a month or two to hit our stride.

This summer was always going to be a massive upheaval with a turnover of players in and out, more than for many years and it's not over yet. Thow in the injuries to two central defenders and other key players and pre season has not been a smooth transition from last season. Sheehan wanted key business to be done by July 1st much of that was done, but PSR and the end of the financial year didn't help. Throw in the players we needed to offload which has been slow to achieve and all in all it's been a very difficult summer.
I have no doubt the club will sort it out and we will come through with a better squad than last season and the vast majority being OUR players. But it will take a little time, quite possibly another window but I believe we will finish higher this season than last pushing for top six. Remember last season our decent run didn't start until well after Christmas and then we were only a win or so off the play offs, there is plenty of time.

The thing is that after a pretty poor first half the team that came out in the second half were much better, even in the first half we carved out a clear scoring chance.
Lorient looked a settled side and you don't win leagues with out a touch of quality. They played with a three man front line consisting of a good target CF and kept the wingers out wide they had at least two supporting players reminiscent of the old inside forwards to support both wingers while they were also positioned to feed of the CF. At times those inside forwards dropped deeper outnumbering us in the midfield.
Lorient even in the first half looked shaky with balls played long in behind the fullbacks but we did not create much going through the middle on the floor at all, we let them play through us with some very poor marking. A similar thing happened in the first half last season in the friendly against Riu which eventually turn out well as changes were made in that game.
Sheehan with the issues at the back through injuries and an unsettled midfield that first half looked very disjointed the second half was a bit better but the right setup that is adaptable needs to be found.
I'm sure others have seen Cotterill a lot more than me but could he provide the movement in the midfield to create better options through the middle going forward while maintaining a solid defensive midfield?

I certainly agree that the injuries to Cabango, Eom and Santos have disrupted preparations. We've not been able to field our likely first choice side once during pre-season. Eom I think would have made a big difference in creativity given the obvious positive effect Sheehan had on him last season.

We did get the vast majority of our key business done by early July. Strikers are always a bit tricker due to the extra expense attached and our preference on moving one or two out before bringing another in. Window remains open for another month though so no emergency, despite what some might think.
