Bare Faced Lies 20:08 - Aug 4 with 878 views | JACKMANANDBOY | I listen to Angela Eagle, A Government Minister today say on the Today Programme that the Government had returned over 30,000 migrants this year. I looked up the Governments own figures. Forced returns are about 9,000 and voluntary leavers are around 25,000. Now these 25,000 are classified as either subject to removal action or immigration control, the latter means they had visas. These people left on their own accord. https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/immigration-system-statistics-year-endi [Post edited 4 Aug 20:14]

There are categories in the data of enforced returns and voluntary returns. If your return is enforced you are going because you are made to go, if you leave voluntarily you go on your own accord. The Government has not enforced the second category, which is what the minister claimed by combining the data. [Post edited 4 Aug 20:36]

That’s bullet point 2, isn’t it? Returns The Home Office seeks to return people who do not have a legal right to stay in the UK to another country. Returns are reported in 3 main groups: - enforced returns (people subject to administrative removal or deportation action which is carried out by the Home Office) - voluntary returns (people who were liable to removal action or subject to immigration control but have left of their own accord, sometimes with support from the Home Office) - port returns (people who are refused entry to the UK at a place of arrival and have subsequently departed)

So the Government has not returned over 30,000 people. [Post edited 4 Aug 20:46]

Apologies, I didn’t think that’s what she said. I haven’t heard the interview and your OP said that the govern had returned 30,000 people, which according to the link is factually correct. If she said enforced returns then that wouldn’t be true. [Post edited 4 Aug 20:50]

If someone voluntarily gets themselves to an airport walks through passport control, with a UK visa, to go home to another country is the Government returning them? [Post edited 4 Aug 21:07]

Bare Faced Lies on 21:10 - Aug 4 with 719 views | Flashberryjack | I read somewhere that a lot of immigrants are paid £5.000 to go home voluntarily, then sneak back into the country at a later time.

I go on holiday a few times and I have returned and I guess I go through the customs bit so I guess that the government is returning me as much as I would like to stay.

Try reading the link two posts up. Despite your protestations many returns have no Government involvement. You'll see the Sunak has to correct the record in the Houses of Parliament when he made similar claims! The Government has no knowledge of some of these people until after they have left the country! Indeed it is only after they check the visa data that they know they have left the country! https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clyw8jw11jwo.amp [Post edited 4 Aug 22:19]

I’m not protesting at all. I’m just saying that technically she didn’t lie and perhaps the definition of returns in the report doesn’t chime with what many would see as ‘returns’ but she didn’t lie.

The key into this is in the wording. The Home Office seeks to return people who do not have a legal right to stay in the UK to another country. Returns are reported in 3 main groups: This includes students who courses that have ended. They never had any intention of staying here illegally. Look at the wording. UK government set out a warning to Israel. It told them they would recognise Palestine if the annexed the West Bank. I read that as a green light to Annex Gaza.
