Sad to hear about the passing of cult hero and incredible singer songwriter , Terry Reid this week. His story is one of what ifs but also no regrets I’m sure . One of the best voices hardly anybody has ever heard yet sang and wrote alongside musical gods in LA in the 60’s and 70’s loving the lifestyle to the full. Terry was the original choice of Jimmy Page to be the frontman in Led Zeppelin…. But Terry turned it down and the rest is history . He carried on his own path in almost literal obscurity until Rob Zombie used the amazing Seed of Memory for closing credits to The Devils Rejects movie and suddenly Terry had a new audience . I fortunately got to see him perform twice . Both were interesting evenings where he would do a song or 2 then just give anecdotes from his incredible life in LA, where his cockney accent and his cheeky chappy attitude to life made him a very funny guy . His voice was incredible , earning him the nickname ‘superlungs’. You get a small taste of it at the end of Seed of Memory.
This country has produced some incredible talent in Rock, Folk, jazz and Terry crossed into all these genres but none have been quite so underrated or gone under the radar . Rest Easy Terry . You will be sorely missed by those who know .
