Who did you nearly support…? 08:22 - Aug 10 with 2898 views | thame_hoops | I saw GroveR’s comment about nearly supporting Spurs on another thread, and it got me wondering if anyone else had flirtations with other clubs before choosing Rangers? As an 8year-old myself at school in Oxfordshire, my best mate was a West Ham fan, they had McAvennie & Cottee at the time, so I started to like them. Also Alan Devonshire parents lived opposite my Nan in Perivale so I would get some West Ham swag from him including VHS tapes of the season. After a couple trips to Upton Park, my Dad (RIP) realised I was potentially going to support West Ham so he took me down the Rangers for the first time, he was a lifelong fan, from Fulham originally (Wardo Avenue) I do remember West Ham getting relegated in the late 80s, I think, and thanking my lucky stars for choosing Rangers ha ha ha
Who did you nearly support…? on 10:35 - Aug 11 with 179 views | DWQPR | Referring to the OP, can beat him with regards to Alan Devonshire. He lived next door to my Nan and Aunt in Perivale, Welland Gardens. Remember me and my brother both getting signed West Ham footballs from him one Xmas. Their 1980 FA Cup winning team. No intention of keeping them for keeps sake. Went straight onto the grass and within months were worn out. We were both third generation Rangers and nothing was to sway us. Alan himself was a Rangers supporter as a kid and like many other very talented players who made it big was rejected by Rangers as a 14 year old, although to be fair to the club at the time we were producing some outstanding homegrown talent. But as for ever having the thought of supporting another club? Nah. Never. And am i envious of supporters of the big clubs, laden with silverware and shiny new grounds and multi billion pound squads? Nope. Given me my R’s any day of the week. Our infrequent successes are that more special, or players whether good or bad are ours, the kit is the best in the league. Only one other team plays in something similar but manage to fûck that up year after year. Loftus Road is beautiful. A proper football ground. And the legends of the club, never to be forgotten.
