Preston make their point as QPR run out of puff – Report on 13:59 - Aug 11 with 1346 views | stainrods_elbow | It's why clubs now routinely talk about 'the football side of the operation'. Too many people at the club don't help it, and don't care (enough) about it.

Preston make their point as QPR run out of puff – Report on 13:57 - Aug 11 by stainrods_elbow | 100%! I didn't like his smug and spiritless 'performance' at the FF one bit, and I'm really worried about the physical management/training of the squad this season after just one game. |
Clive your report reflects what I saw in our performance on Saturday. Burrell was a vast improvement on Celar and as you detailed because he threw himself around a bit and showed some physicality, be interesting to see if it eventually converts into goals, think it might he looks hungry.

Re Saito I know it's not an area we need to strengthen but he looked like he loved being here and played with such joy and verve. Early on I thought he was too lightweight but he did toughen up later in the season .

A good balanced report. The only bit I’d call out is this notion that Celar needs to run about a bit more and it will go a long way to buying him some credit, and using the impact of Burrell as evidence. Coming off the bench with 20-25 mins to go is so different to starting. Take Paul Smyth, looks a world beater off the bench at times given his work ethic and a league 1 player when he starts. Similar story with Alfie Lloyd. Starting games is very different. But sticking with Celar, not every forward can tear around the park and clatter people or hustle them into an error. And I’d actually say with some it’s worse if they try to do it. Matt Le Tissier, Teddy Sheringham, and to an extent Harry Kane don’t look particularly effective or useful when they’re trying to be something they’re not e.g. run around the park. They actually perform better when they stick to what they’re good at, stay focused on their job and wait for the opportunity to use their skill set. Admittedly I’m not sure what Celar’s strengths/skills are, although thought he was better than other games I’ve seen him in on Saturday but I don’t think he’s a busy forward and him trying to be something he’s not may not be his best route to success. But I agree a pacy, hold up, physical forward is what we need which probably means Celar will struggle but for me he should spend more time focusing on his strengths rather than trying to do more of what he’s not good although I take the point the stuff he’s not good at is something we could do with hence Burrell probably the better option once fit.

Well, yeh, Matt Le Tissier didn't need to charge about because he contributed 25 goals a season. I'm just trying to think of some things Celar could contribute that don't require much ability.

Preston make their point as QPR run out of puff – Report on 13:54 - Aug 11 by stainrods_elbow | When did Field say that? To say it's concerning is an understatement. The fitness situation is just so, so poor for a professional club. Do the owners care? |
It was in the pre-match video with Sints and the club interviewer. Field joins about halfway through.

And many of his goals didn’t require him being in the box too often….

Well, Kevin Gallen’s best advice (from Sibley maybe), was try and get a shot away as soon as you can - doesn’t matter where it goes but just get a shot away. Rarely see Celar do that. Ferdinand when coaching at Spurs had a word with Kane about his running style as it didn’t look great and probably gave the wrong impression to the spurs fans that he was slow/uninterested, Celar could take some advice on that front to improve the impression of lack of effort. He could continue making those near post runs and not wander the channels where he’s ineffective, he could be more vocal, he could play with a bit more abandon, try and enjoy it a bit more as he looks uninterested at times. Some advice for him. But as I said, I’m not convinced by him and don’t think he’s the type of forward we need but goals at Cardiff showed he can finish so try and use that a bit more
Preston make their point as QPR run out of puff – Report on 17:33 - Aug 11 with 792 views | Philothesuperhoop | Thanks for the report Clive. I completely agree on everything. Certainly a missed opportunity - let’s hope those two missed points don’t come home to haunt us in April/May?! You are being too charitable with the ref and the red card. I sit in row A of P upper, so it was right in front of me. The ref had one card in his shorts pocket, the other in his shirt. He put his hand to one pocket, changed his mind and went to the other one. Took out the red card, but couldn’t show it whilst the 6 was rolling around looking for an Oscar. Whilst he waited he changed his mind and swapped cards. Utter rubbish. The tackle was knee high and completely out of control. Also agree with you about Celar - I just can’t see him ever coming good at the moment. The style we play we aren’t just looking for someone to tap in chances from the six yard line. He looks lethargic and soft. I thought Burrell was great when he came on. I have far more belief in him coming good than Celar.

Comparing Celar to the likes of Sheringham and Le Tiss requires such Alice-in-Wonderland mirror distortion you should win a literary prize! I'm intrigued as to how he thinks he's been doing - assuming he engages in self-criticism. Right now, short of service or not, he makes Brett Angell look productive.

Got to beat sides like PNE but with a team like we put out I was reasonably pleased, just wish our first half perfromance was matched in the 2nd.
Preston make their point as QPR run out of puff – Report on 18:49 - Aug 11 with 632 views | CLAREMAN1995 | Excellent report and from watching it on TV that tackle/attempted murder on a breakaway was a straight red all day but he got hurt on the tackle ( we think ) and it was only yellow. The ref who you rate highly was pretty poor all day IMO we could have had a penalty or 2 but got our usual zero cruical calls even at Loftus Road. We have lost the ability to get that cruicial second goal the few times we actually take the lead which almost always cost us 2 or 3 points and it did here

To be fair I only compared him to those players in terms of work rate. I don’t think Celar is the right fit for us or a particularly good player from what I’ve seen. The best thing I’ve seen from him were his 2 finishes at Cardiff and would try and encourage him to be greedy and shoot more, as think he just looks worse when he’s struggling to close players down or be a bit dirty in challenging a centre back though doubt it would have much impact. Anyway don’t want to derail a v good match report which I largely agreed with and wasn’t too unhappy with in terms of performance, first half basically.
Preston make their point as QPR run out of puff – Report on 00:03 - Aug 12 with 320 views | YBlockW12 | Good report, There was some positives, Morrison again, Dembele does have quality if only he would stop going down injured all the time, Chair when he could be bothered to get involved, Poku looked promising until the Rangers injury curse struck. Morgan looked ok at right back until he had to defend, when he had to in the second half did not get close, let attackers turn and run at him, body position wrong from crossfield balls, he is a central midfielder so I don’t blame him, if we were playing a decent side they would of strolled through us on the left flank. I’m sure there is a decent player within Madsen, he does some really good things but is so lazy, he doesn’t make runs a midfielder should. I did text a mate of mine just how big Preston looked compared to us warming up, no wonder they lumped it as much as possible. It was an opportunity missed as Preston are a poor side but they still took a point away. Remember we were without two of our best players in Dunn and Varane who make a huge difference to us. If they both play at Watford I fancy taking at least a point so not all doom and gloom!
