Much about the bombs that ended the war
Prog on now shows the inhumanity of the Japanese
How do they feel about it now
We're meant to feel sorry for them over the A bombs
Should have dropped one on Tokio too

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

I once many years back worked with a man who served there during the battle of Kohima and what a lovely man but mentally scarred from his experiences .One of the last remaining soldiers and incidentally another who served in the same Regiment Royal Welch Fusiliers recently passed away at the age of 98, Richard day up until 2023 was still laying a wreath ay York Minister in memory of all who fell.
The inscription at the base of the monument in Kohima War Cemetery to those who at this battle finally stopped Japan's advance into India reads as such :

“On nid yn ofer” is Welsh & can be translated as “But not in vain”. At the foot of the memorial is a Roll of Honour scroll, with the names of 76 men of the Battalion who died in the Battle.
Its often said they who served in the Far east were the Forgotten Army and in many ways it was ,it was only in the consciousness of friends and families of those who were serving there kept the memory alive.
The Japanese soldier was probably at the time the best in the world and to beat them you either had oe be better or find other ways to best them , the dropping of the bombs effectively stopped the war , a war that if not would have continued until many more civilians and combatants would have died.

Thanks, they were very brave men indeed.Close quarter fighting must have been terrifying but they prevailed and hopefully one day the whole campaign in the far east will gain much more recognition than it currently receives.

It’s incredible we have a world left at all when we had so many evil regimes all around at pretty much the same time. The uk and the yanks get so much bad press when it comes to history but we really did save the world from these regimes on a number of occasions. I was reading about the fall of Germany the other day, as the Russians were approaching Berlin from the east and the allies approaching from the west. Many Germans including Nazi officers (often with the advice from the Fuhrer himself) fled west as it was perceived correctly that they would be treated far more humanely and with more decency if they were captured by the allies.

When I was growing up, we had a neighbour - a lovely quiet family man, who walked in a very strange way.

As a youngster, I asked my father why - and he told me that he had been a Japanese prisoner of war and had been treated terribly - and through ill treatment and disease etc - gangrene had developed - causing him to lose his toes on both feet.

By the time I was in my late teens, he was in a wheelchair, with only stumps for legs.

In all the years I knew him, he never complained about his situation and died relatively a young man - with years of health stolen from his body because of his disgusting ill treatment as a P.O.W.

RIP

Everyday above ground ... Is a good day! 😎

Countless thousands were traumatised for like but these animals yet we are supposed to feel sorry for them over Hiroshima and Nags
We should have wiped out Tolia too
They are peaceful now as they had no choice
Many would entertain anything Jap made

They should never forget their shame

In fact they should have paid reparations

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

The war in that region was brutal. Often at close quarters and hand to hand British and Indian troops were getting a hiding until the 14th army was taken over by the Brilliant Bill Slim. He re organised, trained and brought in new tactics. This eventually led to the rout of 2 entire Jap armies, the biggest land defeat they suffered

" The Union flag in St Mary’s Church Swansea, comes from the ‘death railway’ in Sumatra. Made in a prisoner-of-war camp by allied troops of war at the end of hostilities, and used in the burials of prisoners, the white is from the loincloths worn by prisoners, the blue from the mosquito nets used by Japanese troops and the red from the hat linings of local Indonesians"
Currently Birmingham council are removing Union flags installed on lamp posts in the city as they may be a hazard to car drivers .

We should never forget what happened but at the same time we cannot punish people forever for what their forefathers did.

That is the road taken by people who say we should make reparations for slavery.

The time always comes to move on. These days should be used to remind ourselves of the horrors people are capable of and to try and remind them to at least try to be better.

Try reading Kinkaseki: One Day at a Time by Arthur Titherington. Arthur describes his experiences in the horrific pow camps in Japan in graphic detail. What is more remarkable is that after the war he led the movement to get an official apology from Japan and yet held no hatred towards them. He was Mayor of Witney, the town from where he was born. Remarkable story, remarkable man.

Do you have information about him , he shouldn't be a footnote in history .
