Saturday's attendance 17:57 - Aug 18 with 2253 viewsjohnlangy

I just checked the attendances in the Champ on Saturday. The only teams below us were Oxford and Wrexham. Just embarrassing.

There are many reasons why people don't attend but there was one problem on Saturday that shouldn't have happened and that was the Club's fault, not the supporters. The problem re online booking.

It's impossible to know how many extra would have turned up if this hadn't happened but if we guessed at 500 that still wouldn't take us above the next lowest which was Preston on 16,797.

Is it that other Clubs are run better ? That they have a far better setup in persuading supporters to turn up ? That they charge less ? That they have better initiatives ? Kids for a quid and all that.

Does anyone know ?

Some of the rugby games I watch have attendances of a couple of hundred. Multiply that up through the catchment area and it's thousands. Ignore it if you like but it's a factor, particularly the further out of Swansea you go. It's quite a nice social afternoon/evening.

Rugby isn’t the problem, IPTV and to a much larger scale, people just not being bothered is. The club isn’t the centre of the community it is in Norwich and most likely, as I’m only guessing on these two, places like Preston and Blackburn.

Our ground is situated as near to a community as both PNE and Blackburn are.

From experience I would have to say the social side of Rugby is far better than football, when you look back just around our PL days Swansea senior had 6 divisions + around the same for the reserve sides then on a Sunday 5 now there's no Sunday football a f the Saturday is down to 3 divisions , it was expected that players would stop playing so they could watch the Swans but now they've gone but not back playing in the local leagues ,as someone else posted there are an awful lot of activities that are available.

I don’t mean geographically, I mean the club isn’t as important to people from Swansea as a whole as other clubs are in their cities.

Newcastle is the most obvious example, but Norwich stand out for the club being part of the community at our level. Blackburn and Preston I’m not sure of, but seeing as they have similar attendances to us in smaller places and aren’t far from Manchester or Liverpool, I kind of assumed.

I'm not ignoring it. I've literally just engaged in a conversation with you about it, no need to be sensitive.

You may well have been to a game or 2 a year where there's a couple of hundred at one fixture. But the anecdotal stories about rugby - nice as they are - don't stack up when discussing poor attendances at the football.

That's fine but I actually watch more live rugby in a year than the Swans live.

I’m suggesting a club as isolated as Swansea should have a much larger fan base and a resilient one
Nowt else on Norfolk and Norwich the centre
Same with Suffolk and Ipswich
Last week I saw countless Ipswich shirts all over Cambridge area

We had big crowds on the 50s but somehow lost them and future generations
We have had glory and success
This is not a complaining issue but a real question as to why Swansea people she’s live sport
Same with Ospreys

Other clubs have had really testing times but kept the fans , like Pompey , no bigger than Swansea on size

It’s a concern and we should ask questions without hate speech

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

I live in between those two places and they arent much better in being closer to the community than swansea.

Swansea has a huge area to gain fans from. Carmarthen, Neath, Port Talbot, Llandeilo, Llandovery, Mid Wales, West Wales all the way to the coast. Swansea itself.
Bloody hell we should be filling a 40.000 stadium.
The club dont help matters, the marketing is absolutely useless.
Anyone thats shit hot at marketing could easily put another 5000 on the gate every week.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

I wonder what the gate will be for the Wales v Canada game. I bet many don't know when or where it is.

I suspect the poor set up of our ticketing department stopped quite a few from coming.

No excuses for this Saturday 🤔

Something I became aware of - and alarmed by - last March. This is beyond pathetic for any business of its size and scope in 2025.

Yep the last lot didnt give a sh!t and even though this new lot seem to care about what's going on the playing side and getting international recognition, they still haven't sorted the marketing out where it truly matters, at home.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that getting the locals interested will mean more money through the gates and through food and shirt sales, that in turn will fill the stadium therefore make it a better atmosphere therefore make the team play better.

Come on K get yourself in a suit and have a word with that bellend gorringe, you could do a far better job that him.

filling 40k? The only time we got near that number was Wembley and that was a lot of plastics having a day out.

Maybe, MAYBE if the stadium had been bigger when we got to the Prem we would have started with bigger crowds and got people tied in. But I doubt it. There just aren't enough Swansea City fans in Swansea.

Cardiff have the same issue, they have a bigger stadium which was full in the EPL but look at their crowds last season.

There are many reasons why and we've been through them several times. Low income area, lack of interest, poor commercial dept, lack of sustained success, other sports....they all play a part.
Maybe, if the current owners get their shit fogether commercially and we get some success on the pitch again, crowds will pick up but if we get promoted again they can't say "let's wait til the time is right to extend" they just need to do it, put an extra 5k on and go again.
