Rule change for International allegiance 20:17 - Sep 23 with 2159 viewsRhonddaSwans

Appearances in World Cup finals matches or continental finals such as the European Championships would prohibit a change of eligibility. However, appearing in a tournament qualifier would not.
Previous rules ensured that one appearance in a competitive match, including Nations League games, tied players to that country for the remainder of their international careers.

Anyone know anything else on these new rules?

I did read somewhere that you can receive no more than three caps and as long as you change to another country before the age of 21 it is OK.

My understanding of this is qualifier's do not count anymore .
So only a major tournament spit would make someone ineligible .
For some of the African nations this could be huge .
I am in work at the moment so when I get home.
I will be doing some research.

AI, if you trust it.

Recent rule changes to FIFA's international eligibility criteria (effective September 2020) allow players to switch national allegiance after 21 if they've played fewer than three senior competitive matches for their previous country, but a residency clause for players not having played senior games for their "home" country allows switching if they've lived in the new country for five or more consecutive years. Additionally, some national associations, like Wales, have proposed expanding the residency rule to include five years of living in a home nation country for players to become eligible for that country's international team.
