actually looking half decent for once.

The Cure, Sex Pistols, etc. Wouldn't mind seeing Suzanne Vega & KT Tunstall either.

I expect there will be parking for the Zimmer frames.
That isn't a line up, that's a museum

We bought tickets a couple of months ago.

TBH I am a little disappointed.

I thought that with there being no Glastonbury next year, the IOW would really go for it.

That said, I am looking forward to seeing Calvin Harris, who I’ve never seen before but think is a genius.

Also have tickets for Camp Bestival and Victorious for next year.

Victorious had a fantastic line-up this year; will be interesting to see who they get for next year.

Mmmmm, each to their own. That said, I will probably go for the lure of The Cure and 3/4’s of the Pistols…..

The Pistols without Johnny isn't 3/4, it is barely 1/8!

There are some decent acts there.

The Last Dinner Party (bit sweary) and Wet Leg are worth a watch/listen.

The headliners don't do it for me though.

I also thought Victorious this year was poor and none of the headliners there were enough to attract me.

Have to say whilst in part I agree, Frank Carter does a decent job with Jones et al.

Is it not a little sad that great bands of the past try to extend their earnings by drafting in replacements who frankly are never going to be the same?

For me a great band is one which has a certain chemistry which drives their sound, attitude and stage shows. That sometimes means that you put up with a front man who is not the best singer or a lead guitarist who is prone to simple but powerful riffs or drummers who are a bit bonkers (that would be most of them).

I've never been keen on supporting these mutant bands and whilst I never was a Sex Pistols fan, I absolutely get it that their motive was anger against the establishment. That establishment has been and gone and they should perhaps chow some class and put the Sex Pistols down and do their own thing now.

I would suggest a fair few disagree.

How many thousands went to see Oasis without Tony McCaroll and Guigsy in the line up? The Manics are still plodding on without Richey and Kasabian are still playing without their front man.

I don’t totally disagree, but sometimes you have to take each act as you see it.

The Pistols swapped one of their main songwriters in Glen Matlock in between Anarch in the UK being released in December 1976 & their mainstream break through with God Save The Queen in May 1977, there are very few bands who have their original line ups throughout their career.

Sometimes losing the singer is a big problem and i would agree that a Rotten less Sex Pistols is hard to see as the same, but its all about nostalgia and people want to hear the old songs played by some of the old band.

And do you think any of the bands mentioned are as good now as they were with the original line up?

I was a Kasabian fan and saw them several times in their original form. Saw them at Victorious (two years ago?) without Meighan and frankly they are not a patch on what they were.

The Manics I've never followed so have no opinion. Oasis? aka The Cheapskate Beatles? Saw them at Wembley about two gigs before they folded. Enjoyed the show, great energy, but even then I think the drummer was not the original?

You may have stumbled on a truth here.

Yes I agree that some of the "old" songs that resonate with our youth have connections beyond the merits of the music and we like to be transported back to those times. That old song performed by a new singer will always, in my opinion, be not quite the same which rather taints the experience.

I'm also of the view that a band which has a "big" hit and which is played at every gig must get bored rigid and sometimes that comes across in the performance. Music is not static and bands have to move on and develop (or fold).

Saw Oasis at Wembley. They were brilliant. Seen them before, but they seemed a lot tighter, more on it. Liam's voice was significantly better than previous times I've seen them.

Richard Ashcroft was also great and it would be good to see him again at some point next summer. It was packed when he played his set and young and old seemed to get well into it.

I saw Oasis at Wembley last summer, 30 years since I first saw them in Sheffield, and I agree it was a magnificent occasion.
Liam Gallagher’s voice has improved with age and has his brother’s lead guitar abilities.

I also saw Richard Ashcroft in the summer at Blenheim Palace and that also was a superb evening.
Have got a ticket to see him at The O2 in March.

Money comes and goes. Memories last forever.
