Liverpool did the League and European Cup double in 1976/77 and only played 9 (NINE) players all season. Jimmy Case famously played in 3 positions at the same time. Ray Clemence would play in goal and simultaneously run the line. Phil Thompson would sell golden-goal tickets right up to kick-off, play centre-back, and when a goal was scored run to the media-suite/bingo-master’s shack, announce the time of the goal, and then get back into position for the re-start. The manager Bob Paisley would often put on a ginger-wig, change his name to David Fairclough, put himself on as substitute, and score the winner.
