A cross-party House of Commons Home Affairs Committee report says that a lack of grip in the Home Office has seen the migrant hotels 10-year contract cost rise from £4.5 billion to £15.3 billion. Poorly-drafted contracts have allowed companies to provide expensive hotel accommodation rather than cheaper alternatives. The report contrasts the average nightly hotel cost of £145 with the dispersal accommodation cost of £23.25 per night. Contract management is said to have been abysmal. The Committee highlights the Home Office’s failure to recover 46 million from two firms that breached the terms of their contracts even though the contracts contained clawback clauses.

I wonder how many of the incompetent people squandering our hard earned taxes will lose their jobs.
Don't these idiots have any measures of contract or financial performance built into their jobs?

It’s a scandalous situation. People need to be held to account. I’m not surprised contract management was abysmal has the HO isn't fit for purpose, it’s been nothing short of a shamble for years, probation service reform, police reform, Bail Act changes are other examples.

I think it’s worth pointing out that these deals were agreed under by the previous Conservative government.

It’s also worth pointing out that some of the companies involved in providing the accommodation have connections with and have made donations to the Conservative Party either through the company, owner or director.s.

In many cases taxpayers money isn’t just wasted, it’s unscrupulously ripped out of the system in to greedy private hands.

Dame Karen Bradley (Con chair of Home Affairs Committee) said something that puzzled me in a radio interview this morning, Wanting to quash the idea that the hotels represented 4 or 5 star accommodation for migrants, she said that in many cases 3 or 4 persons occupied a room. Given that the committee stated that the average cost of an hotel per migrant per night was £145, this made me think that if true such rooms would cost at least £435 a night, which seems impossible, even for the Home Office or Government of the day to pay. I am still scratching my head, and remain of the view that hotels represent a better level of accommodation than is needed. Wonder what the rooms in the Dragon are like? I always picked somewhere cheaper when I visited Swansea during my years away. When once I came for a job interview I don't think my potential employer would have coughed up for that.

Refugees !"Welcome Here" ,if they were stopped at source then maybe this thread would be redundant but their not therefore so it continues.
When you have the dipwicks in cardiff and their proclamation that Wales is a Sanctuary ,costing us millions then align that with the 20mph speed limit estimated to cost us AGAIN a cool 9 billion its unbelievable that this is allowed to continue.

Bibby Stockholm idea was sunk even before it took to float , elf and safety rules innit .

Rwanda , happy and thanks for the alleged £60 million down payment to accept your incoming flights , UK taxpayers will not mind another instalment if you want to throw any more money at us of course .

Our Human Rights lawyer Prime Minister binned that idea from Day 1 of his tenure , what a waste of money from all scared Politicians who will have the backbone to make any real decisions on illegal immigration .

Tony Blair and Cherie , you opened the stable door , try getting the horse back in now .

Some from those days should be held accountable. The rubbing of noses in diversity has become painfully abrasive.

If you have a permanent civil service contract it is very, very difficult to lose your job for simple incompetence. Useless people just get moved, whether they're lowly peons or senior managers.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.
