 | News Comment | Southampton Go Into Championship Opening Weekend In Strong Position at 13:14:30
Your point about Bazunu and Manning not being too bad because Saints went 23 league games unbeaten has some validity, but don't forget that the best defence for that period was mainly due to Stephens being injured. Can we rely on him to get injured again? |
 | News Comment | It's A Double Bubble For Southampton's Meetings With Portsmouth at 05:45:18
As a veteran of the local derbies in the 60's, where we would stand in the Fratton and throw stink bombs, coins and bottles of urine at each other, then fight our way back to the railway station, Bowlercow complaining about spit and tomatoes seems a bit trivial. |
 | News Comment | Farewell To Jan Bednarek at 05:29:42
Caught out of position so many times, was excellent at pointing the finger at the other defenders when mistakes were made, too slow and a bit clumsy. But he did look great when he played alongside Stephens. |
 | News Comment | Saints Award Jack Stephens A 3 Year Contract. at 05:30:38
Could be worse, could be a new contract for McCalamity in goal. Maybe an increased contract for Slowbone? Maybe Stephens is good at putting the cones out for training, or teaching the youngsters what not to do? |
 | News Comment | Southampton Midfielder On Leeds United Radar. at 11:40:26
A Sheffield Wednesday fan told me Shea Charles was not just Player of the Season, but the best player in a Wednesday shirt for several seasons. Saints should make him captain and build a team around him. |
 | News Comment | Can Southampton Poop Everton's Party at 07:48:42
Everton blatantly cheated the financial rules when they claimed a bigger loss from Covid than the big 6. They should have been relegated then but just got a small points deduction and even then got it reduced on appeal. Please let Saints spoil their party, it's the least we can do to the cheaters. For those of us watching on TV, put a pillar in front of your chair to get that real feeling that you are at Goodison. |
 | News Comment | Southampton At West Ham United The Preview at 17:39:33
Nick, I agree it would be wrong to make wholesale changes until Saints pass Derby's record, but we could use 1 or 2 youngsters such as Robinson. Rusk thought Stephens gave a Captain's performance so is unlikely to be dropped, after all he was only at fault for the second goal and the second penalty. As for letting 2 goal Armstrong go out on loan, he was a liability, his first touch is abysmal and his main ploy was running past the defender in the hope that he would make a mistake, something PL defenders don't do that often. Even with him, Saints would still be toothless up front. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Wolverhampton Wanderers The Preview at 12:20:44
Hopefully Bednarek hasn't recovered, the back 4 looked good for most of the Liverpool game, with ABK and THB. It was the stupid penalties that were the problem, drop Smallbone and don't bring on Sugawara. Bring in a striker, doesn't matter who, they are all equally poor. |
 | News Comment | Who Killed The Magic Of The FA Cup for Southampton at 05:39:52
Nick, you missed one other nail in the coffin of the FA Cup, when they stopped the losing finalist from entering Europe if the winner had already qualified. Don't forget Saints qualified this way despite losing the final to Arsenal. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Newcastle United The Preview at 20:18:43
Nick you are obviously a fan of Armstrong but 6 goals in 72 Premier League games, including penalties. His first touch is appalling, his tackling below this league's standard, heading ability poor. What does he do well? Impersonation of a headless chicken. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Brighton The Preview at 06:41:06
We do stand a chance of winning at Brighton, play a recognised left back, bring in a CB, move Downes into midfield, drop Stephens, play Tall Paul if he's fit, play safe at the back and hoof the ball upfield when under pressure. Simple. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Liverpool The Verdict at 10:11:00
We bought CB's Edwards and Wood in the summer, we have a German international CB Bella-Kotchap, we have Taylor who has played CB in the Premier League. Instead of utilising one of these, Martin takes our most mobile midfielder and plays him at CB. Uter madness. For those that will argue that Edwards and Wood are inexperienced, transfermarkt has their value at nearly double that of Stephens, and how are they supposed to gain experience if they don't play? |
 | News Comment | Central Defensive Injury Blow For Southampton at 04:41:14
McCalamity in goal, Stephens at CB. Top of the table playing bottom of the table. What could go wrong? 1-0 to Saints. Pass me some more of that wacky-backy. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Manchester United The Verdict at 10:56:51
You are all being too soft on Stephens. The tackle was typical of a Sunday Pub League, studs to knee, no where near the ball, so late the ball was over a metre away when contact was made. Martin had a clear view, only a few meters away from him, but gets himself booked protesting about a red card that was as clear as any you will ever see. Stephens must be stripped of the captaincy, sent to train with the under 18's, and only reinstated if we lose 9-0. The team at Everton should be an opportunity to see what ABK can do, and please don't risk our best players in a meaningless cup game. |
 | News Comment | Southampton Put In BId For Feyenoord Keeper at 21:04:26
Any keeper's price has gone up a few million thanks to McCalamity, everyone can see how desperate Saints are now. Should have made goalkeeper our first signing after gaining promotion. |
 | News Comment | Adam Armstrong Signs New Southampton Deal at 15:56:50
What short memories you have. Armstrong has a terrible first touch, in the Championship he can get away with it but in the Premier League to let the ball bounce 2 metres in front of you means you have lost it to the centre half. He doesn't have the pace to outrun the faster Premiership defenders. Maybe Stewart can make the grade, but as he was missing from the squad against Eastleigh don't hold your breath. Saints need 2 strikers, so let's hope they learned not to leave it to deadline day when they lost out on Gakpo. |
