Swans at a canter as they defeat the Owls Saturday, 30th Aug 2025 18:55 by Swansea Independent Swansea City didn’t so much as make hard work of today’s fixture at Sheffield Wednesday, at times especially in the second half they were superb. However the amount of chances made compared to goals scored will frustrate some of the Jack Army. That isn’t a slight against any player as once again Ethan Galbraith earned his man of the match stripes in a fixture the away side dominated. Especially in the second half. The home side did have a few chances, and through Cadamarteri created some dangerous attacks, but overall this was a game that was won through persistence. Was it at a canter ? It was for a lot of the game and to be honest if there is going to be an exciting season beating sides like Sheffield Wednesday is a must. Their squad is pretty much thrown together, and as we stated in our pre match last night they have lost a whole slew of players. That’s all down to their owner and for such a prestigious club your heart goes out to their fans. The dominance of the first half saw the Swans a bit ragged at times. Passes were off and the lack of awareness, especially from Ronald who would later finish off a cracker of a move to score the second goal. His eye for a runner was missing. Franco didn’t have his shooting boots on this afternoon, but stayed on the pitch for the full game. As expected Inoussa left the field of play in the second half for Eom, and we saw Widell and Malick on in the second half as well. Having said that it was a satisfying result, it proves if nothing else that this side is building up to be contenders in the top half of the table. After four league games the Swans have seven points from twelve - with two wins, a draw and a loss. The Swans sit in seventh place in the Championship this evening. A great springboard after the international break concludes with a home game against Hull City on the 13th September (Saturday. 3pm) Tests after that will come with an away trip to Birmingham City followed by a home fixture against Millwall. After that it’s an away game at Blackburn Rovers then home to Leicester City. That’s a block of six games which won’t define the season but it will very much give us all an insight into this squad as it will be settled with no distractions. Well, that is until those six games are concluded then it’s another International break. You can see what the Swans are trying to do, and for it to be successful there does need to be a more clinical edge. What we saw in the second half was a few passing masterclasses, especially leading up to both goals. There were more golden moments in-between those goals as well. Although Sheehan is missing a whole load of players in the international break. Those that remain can then settle down more, especially the likes of Melker Widell, Zeidane Inoussa, Bobby Wales and Malick Yalcouye. Hopefully there will be a few more in by the end of Monday, we will take a stab at three including Adam Idah, but who is good at predicting the future ? Sometimes we are. This break takes away, Lawrence Vigouroux (Chile), Ethan Galbraith (Northern Ireland), Cameron Burgess (Australia), Marko Stamenic (New Zealand) Zan Vipotnik (Slovenia), Liam Cullen and Ben Cabango (Wales) ⚽️ The general stats today tell the tale. ![]() 15:00- We are off at Hillsborough 15:05 - Nothing on this as yet, Wednesday had a header but it went wide. Swans attacking. Lovely training ground move by the Swans from a free kick, need to hold on to possession. 15:09 - Holding on to the ball is an issue and the build up is slow. Vigouroux nearly caught out playing silly buggers at the back. Wednesday scrapping for every ball, looking accomplished. 15:11 - Franco wins a free kick, Wednesday boos around the ground. Swans are not switched on now, loose balls and too casual against intense Owls pressure and press. Walking football arrives at Hillsborough. 15:13 - Inoussa puts a ball in for Galbraith who should have done better with his shot. Then another cross by Inoussa met by Vipotnik but his glancing right footed shot on goal was weak. Franco getting the treatment from the Owls fans. 15:16 - Good work by Ronald ends up with a shot at goal by Franco, it gets blocked. The Owls now slowing the game down after a few minutes of Swansea pressure. 15:19 - A Lowe (low) cross is smothered by Vigouroux. 15:20 - Swans corner on their right defended well, shot comes in but it’s deflected. Franco gives the ball away. 15-25 : It’s been a slow five minutes. 15:26 - Tough tackling in midfield doesn’t go in the Swans favour after Vigouroux gives the ball away in a dangerous position. 15:29 - More Owls defending, blocking everything as Franco takes out his man and is yellow carded.🟨 Overall after half a hour the Swans are in the ascendancy with possession at 66% and 4 shots, the Swans need to understand that they have to be quicker in their passing. 15:33 - Ridiclious foul by Galbraith, pure stupidity when it wasn’t required pulling back his opponent. 🟨 15:35 - The Swans try an eek out another chance but everything ends up with a far more physical Owls side winning blocks and duels. 15:38 - A Bannan shot is fielded by Vigouroux. However the Swans are now giving the ball away in dangerous areas again. 15:29 - A nice piece of skill again from Inoussa earns Franco a shot at goal but its slightly off target. 15:43 - More Swans pressure, a cross from the right from Ronald is completely misjudged by Galbraith in the box. 15:46 - The half is brought to an end with Sheehan surely not happy with the productivity in front of goal. There has been too many errors in build up, little quick thinking and attacking players not seeing runs made from midfield. Especially by Galbraith. ![]() We are underway at Hillsborough 46 - More casual play by the Swans causes some defensive panic early on. 49 - ⭐️Lovely move involving Galbraith feeding Vipotnik who shoots low and beats the Wednesday on loan keeper. 1-0 the Swans 52 - Great work on the Swans right, Galbraith delivers but Franco again miscues a golden chance. 55- There Swans are now creating well in midfield. From that creativity a corner is awarded to the Swans which Vipotnik connects with but it is cleared. 58- Two quick corners awarded after a wonderful disguised free kick by Galbraith which was going in. The latter met by Burgess who heads just wide. 60 - Wednesday attack down the Swans right, a cross was headed away by Galbraith. The resultant corner kick well taken by Vigouroux. 61 - A Galbraith run results in a corner, It’s delivered by Tymon and Key just can’t keep his header down. Another goal with the way the Swans are playing and the points are in the bag. 65 - Poor play over the last few minutes by the Swans. Passes going astray which is giving the home side hope as they push forwards. 67 - Another rasping shot by Vipotnik is saved. From the corner Galbraith puts in a real strikers chance but no Swans player is even close. 69- Possibly time for a sub as Vipotnik sets up Franco for a shot but the ball is taken from his feet. These chances need taking. Then another save from the Owls keeper as Ronald drills a shot on target. 72 - A really good Wednesday effort after good work from Valary, his shot just goes over the bar. Warning signs there. 73 - A cracking ball from a free kick on the left by Tymon was just begging for a touch. It is headed out for a corner. Swans pressure continues. 74 - Another lovely Galbraith shot is saved and oncoming Swans players fail to get a touch as it bounces away. This could be five by now. Eom is on for Inoussa. 77- Wednesday are still in this, they shouldn’t be but they are. They earn a corner on the Swans right. It’s cleared but the pressure increases. 79- The Owls make their second and third subs. 80- ⭐️What a superb five man move as Ronald passes his shot into the back of the Wednesday net, fully deserved but it took time. Cullen is on for Vipotnik. 89 - Melker Widell and Malick Yalcouye are on for Galbraith and Ronald. 91- Another shot on target, this time it’s Eom but the shot is saved easily. 92- Wednesday continue to look to score a goal but it’s not to be. 93- The Swans are making little effort now to get a third. But there’s no need as the Swans take all the points in a workmanlike performance with plenty for Sheehan to work on. ![]() Photographs : Swansea Independent Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
