West Bromwich Albion In Talks For Southampton Defender
Monday, 1st Sep 2025 15:58

As we move into the last 3 hours of the summer transfer window it emerges that after taking Tom Fellows from the Baggies they are looking at taking one of our players off the books in return.

footballleagueworld.co.uk are reporting that Charlie Taylor could be moving to West Bromwich Albion on loan.

They say that Albion are in the market for a left-back addition to provide cover and competition for Callum Styles, and that Taylor seems to be the preferred option.

The deal will be on a straight season long loan deal given that the player is in the last year of his two year contract after signing for Saints on a free transfer in the summer of 2024.

He is said to be heading up to the Midlands for a medical this afternoon.

Personally I am sad to see him go, I think with the injury to Wellington we are short in the left back area and could do with someone with the experience of Taylor in the squad, however it would seem that Will Still does not see it the same way and it looks like Taylor will be off the books until the end of the season.

Any chance of us getting a decent Centre Forward, Centre Back and Goalkeeper before 19.00hrs this evening ?

Asking for a friend.

Letting CT go would just be the conclusion to a series of errors and mistakes in the way Saints have treated him since arrival. He's an experienced professional that should have walked into the starting line up week after week. I can't imagine he'll be sorry to go, but never let us down on the few occasions we actually used him.

One thing's for sure: West Brom will have a better defensive record than Saints this season. Taylor is our best defender.

Pity about this one, as Charlie seems a likeable type who can DAJFU on the pitch and will be missed on the training ground, but looking to the future is someone whose age is already against him, (but I may have to bite my tongue if he turns out to be another James Milner).
