No, the bookies rarely lose money. The shortening of odds just means they are cutting their liabilities, which means money is being put in it. It doesn't mean the people putting money on it are right.

It's quite odd that all that fuss was made of pardews headbutt last season whereas nothing's really been said about this. You could argue that pardews was an instinctive reaction and pearsons was quite deliberate and prolonged and had a nasty undercurrent to it.
