Green to West Ham today? 11:21 - Aug 21 with 6988 viewsbosh67

A few reports knocking around that he will be having a medical there this afternoon with a view to being able to play tomorrow afternoon there. Would be a shame to lose him after saying he would stay but would also wish him well. Plus it would be £50K off the wages bill, which for a keeper is a lot at this level!

Never knowingly right.

Let me rephrase..

"I would have him back.....as 2nd choice, as long as he wasn't banging a daughter of anyone connected to the club" (allegedly)

Thought I heard we were getting Darren Randolph in part chop/loan for Rob.

To coin the phrase it's a No Brainer, we've already signed Greens replacement and to get £2.6 million off the wage bill will be a big result.

There's still a very remote chance we might not sell Charlie, if he does stay we need enough money to offer him a new deal with an increased salary, reports say he's after £45k, that might be possible if we shift 2/3 other players.
There's a lot of clubs who seem afraid of Charlie's injury record so if he stays a new deal with a release clause seems the way to reward him, that's obviously if FFP allows us to pay Charlie an increased wage which may not be possible.

Was expecting him to have gone by now. Be interesting to see if Green is in the squad tomorrow.

Hasn't the FFP rules changed for this season meaning that relegated clubs now have up to three seasons to comply, this is assuming that FFP has any credibility left, which I very much doubt is the case. Still think that last report of £8million being an agreed fine is bull. Why would TF agree to such a thing if there is a good chance of getting the whole system ripped up.

Also, with regards to Robert Greens wages, he signed a new contract at the start of last season and I suspect that like other players it would have included a relegation clause. The original contract was reported to be in the region of £45k a week and I would imagine that the new one would have not been more than that. Would like to keep Green. A good keeper and certainly one of the better ones I have seen at LR in my 40 odd years watching Rangers, not a Phil Parkes but not far off a David Seaman.

Well it does appear we are trying to get high earners off the wage bill and all the media has stated that Green is on 45-50k a week. I certainly didn't realise that Green had signed a new contract, if he has and it includes a relegation clause then that may be part of the reason why Green is considering an offer from West Ham IF there is any truth in the rumour.

Ive never really watched Smithies but what I'm hoping for is a keeper who commands his area and is confident when crosses come into the box, it's an incredibly important part of a keepers game and it's something for me where Green has never shown total confidence.

For my sins I've been supporting since 1966 and seen the best and the worst of our keepers, Parkes and Seaman were without doubt our best and I just don't think Green comes anywhere near that quality, it's all personal opinion as you know. To be honest if the club can afford to keep two top keepers then Green should stay he's a good goalkeeper, but I'm guessing the new fiscal policy may mean he's surplus to requirements.

Ha ha I can hear Blob's footsteps approaching...

Green has been a decent servant but is a high earner.

Smithies is a very decent keeper, I like him a lot.

It's good business all round. We'll have cleared £x amount a week off the wage bill without getting any worse in a key position.

Babbling post, ignore.

Made oi larf, that.

Greens got a chance of Euros next year, and should go IMHO. If he can get £50,000 a week elsehwhere then he should go.

He's been a fantastic, consistent and reliable, intelligent and brilliant Club servant and will always be held in the highest regard for me.
