Jimmy sacked on 09:54 - Nov 6 by derbyhoop | No baggage for Clement??? Having a relationship with your striker's mother, allegedly, is not baggage? I think the decision to sack JFH is symptomatic of modern football. A few bad results and you're the worst manager ever. A winning run and we're promotion certainties. Remember we head hunted him, went through a rigorous selection process where he was far and away the best candidate. Then we sack him in under 12 months. Why is a replacement going to do significantly better? How long will it take to get in a replacement, if we go down a similar route to last year. Who are the outstanding candidates? Clement, Sherwood, Pearson, Allardyce, Di Matteo, Evans. All of them are available for one reason. They've all been sacked from one or more previous clubs. So why is it going to be better for us? A club with no money and no infrastructure. What do we want and what the hell are we expecting. |
JFH was not the best candidate at the time; Warburton was. Good track record, Championship experience, tactically astute, at the right stage of his career, settled in the area, available and inexpensive. The board must take some blame for ignoring the obvious and selecting the wrong candidate.

Jimmy sacked on 10:51 - Nov 6 by Jamie | Already stated that's he's retired from management after embarrassing himself at Valencia. Doesn't want to lose the 0.00000000000003% of credibility he still has left as a pundit. Pointless throwing out names anyway, it'll be tactical Tim. |
I would actually love Gary Neville. Good standing and respect in the game. Strong coaching pedigree - clearly done all his badges and has been involved with England for a few years. Talks a lot of sense. Had a great career at the very highest level. Okay so it didn't work out at Valencia - club management in a country he's never lived or worked in; but that doesn't mean he's doomed to fail. I'd love us to offer him a chance.
Jimmy sacked on 12:35 - Nov 6 with 2002 views | Brightonhoop | Heart says Clement, head says Warnock, but Warnock wont work under a DoF. And Clement is a brilliant coach but inexperienced manager. Sherwood can do one, as can Allardyce.

Typical QPR. The only club to back their man during the Telegraph fiasco only to sack him a few weeks later.

The problem with the likes of GNev and Giggs is they expect to start their managerial careers at the top. Giggs wanted the Man U job and GNev went to Valencia.

Strategically they're not. We have not become a poor team overnight. The Telegraph fiasco presented the board with the perfect opportunity to sack JFH with a minimum of fuss and consider credible alternatives such as Jackett and Warnock. Instead they chose to stick by their man only to sack him a few weeks later when more questions will be asked and the list of options is not so appetising.

Great advert to the next candidate, the Board will sack on non-evidenced based press stories. Sign on the dotted line.....ffs

I was initially in favour of JFH getting the sack over the Telegraph issue but I think I was wrong. Turns out to be little or no evidence. If Hoos and Ferdinand had listened to people like me they'd most likely be in a messy and embarrassing court wrangle for wrongful dismissal. I'm glad they stuck with him over that issue and in retrospect I think that they handled the whole thing extremely well.

As opposed to trotting out the usual hyperbole about consolidation and backing a manager only to sack him a few weeks later? That's a worse advert. In any event, there was enough smoke to get rid and no prospective manager would have questioned it. Despite the madness, Monk still took the Leeds job.

What fuss? Fernandes said 'not good enough' and Bam!, within hours he's gone. The Tele beat-up disappeared into thin air under scrutiny so that could have turned into the club being accused of acting without basis, had they sacked him then.

If the club were sticking with JFH until the end of the season then I would agree with you. Given that they sacked him yesterday they may as well have taken advantage of a clear opportunity a few weeks ago. I very much doubt the club would have a case of wrongful dismissal to answer and they could abate this risk by agreeing a compensation package. A key question to ask yourself when considering whether or not to sack a manager is are credible alternatives available. There was then , there isn't so much now. It looks very much like the runway is being cleared for Tactics Tim.

Ok, I think they would have ended up in court but we differ. Fair enough.

Except you've missed the vital point which is that he has already said he doesn't want another management job, at least not any time in the foreseeable future. He's already lost all his credibility and ended up in a far reduced role back at Sky, another failure and he's finished, so he's sticking to the warm studios and Twitter account.

Jimmy sacked on 09:08 - Nov 6 by Gloucs_R | They are not facts....thats your opinion. LF has not been a disaster IMO, he has overseen the player purchases of some very good, young talent who we will make a profit on. Jimmy, on paper, was exactly what a lot of people were crying out for. It hasn't worked, we move on. I think you believe LF has more power then he does, lots of people make these decisions and its certainly not down to just Les. I personally think expectations are still too high. We should be a Top 10 Champ club for the next couple of years, balance the books, play entertaining football, bring through some youngsters and put some foundations in place. I'd say a lot of that is slowly happening. |
Agree with most of this and was more than happy with the way we went about recruiting in the summer. We have a very decent blend of new signings and young players coming through the system. This is the best squad we have had for some time and yes, some of them are still settling in. However, having released Hill and specifically Faurlin, we have had to rely on the continued selection of Henry and the constant rotation of the rest of the squad. Jimmy's selections, tactical nous and failure to find any sort of pattern of play has been woeful. What gets me is this won't have been a snap, knee jerk decision. Surely Les must have been in constant communication with Jimmy about the concerns within the club and the fan base about how piss poor we had been playing, but more importantly, how little progress we appeared to be making? It was obvious what was coming.........Jimmy, you need to understand the definition of madness as you reflect on your first dismissal.

There was a poster on here calling for JFH to be sacked at ht yesterday which seemed ridiculous for a supporter while there was still 45min left. It would appear that some of our supporters aren't too dissimilar to TF.
Jimmy sacked on 14:44 - Nov 6 with 2369 views | BrazilNutR | I just put the G-Nev name in because he does seem to fit the bill.. we wanted a young up and coming.. but also with a bit of experience. G-Nev has experience of both a bad run with Valencia, which although a bad one will possibly have taught him far more in a short space of time thanmany other jobs. He also is highly qualified having been on the England set up.. and the fact that he is on the back of a Valencia disaster might mean he would be open to a 'lesser' job, in order to try and salvage his career.. Saying all that, still not 100% sure if I would be happy with him, as I never liked him as a player.. was just throwing a name in out of interest.
