Pitch completed tomorrow evening 10:42 - Feb 12 with 22243 viewsRAFC1907

Had a good talk with Russ Green this morning, what a smashing bloke.

Brought down tea and coffee for the fans waiting for tickets, and gave us info about the pitch which he had hoped it would be done by today but with the climate it will be tomorrow evening and the dome will be up protecting it for Sunday.

Roll on Sunday, Up the Dale.

Did you ask him who's paying for it?

We are paying for it. Tottenham wont give us anything, but when we beat them on Sunday at least they cant blame it on the beach.

We shouldn't have laid a new pitch - let Spurs come and play on the one that we beat Millwall on. Weather forecast for this week improving all the time - good chances that the pitch could well have held up, with work done on it during the week. Think we have bowed to the demands of Bertie Big Bollox from the Premier League.

What would we have done for the rest of the season? The pitch we had was waterlogged after one night of rain. This was a decision, as confirmed by the club statement, that was something that needed doing to ensure we had a better surface for the rest of the campaign. It was also the only time window we had left - 8 days with significant support to make it as good as possible.

What happens now if Kane or Alli cockle over (as they're wont to do) but actually do themselves mischief? Surely the new pitch will rescue us from any retribution.

Could happen to Kane or Alli on any pitch! Are they so precious? They're taking the same risk as anybody else as soon as they step out on to a pitch (that the officials have deemed playable).

Agreed. However, the way the furore over the Millwall pitch escalated, you'd be forgiven for thinking no player has ever been injured on a decent surface.

Purely for this reason, there's a part of me that's relieved we've relaid the pitch. Had someone got injured on the old pitch, we'd have never heard the last of it. At least this way, should someone get injured, we can say "you got the new pitch you wanted and more people suffered injuries than on the terrible pitch".

Disclaimer: Of course I hope no one gets injured.

I understand your point, Scunnydale, but we can ill-afford spending so much on a new pitch just to please 'the big boys'.

Looking at the channel 5 highlights and there are some shocking pitches. Oldham’s is a mess as is Bradford’s. anyone would think Dales is the only one in a complete mess.

We had no choice once the inflatable cover was sent back, the pitch was left open to the elements and it became waterlogged again. We had to guarantee to get a game on. This was the only way. As 442 pointed out, we have also had external help and advice from the FA. Can you imagine if this game had had to be postponed on the old pitch?

We also could ill-afford every game for the rest of the season being in doubt and played on a surface that would be erratic at best. Again, this decision should have nothing to do with the Spurs match.

You're right of course, but they aren't all live on national TV next week, so those in the media/press/high office at the FA won't give a sh!t.

Plenty of lower league pitches would send shivers down the spine of the powers that be, if only they gave a monkey's.

If we hadn't done something, the game on Sunday would have been off, as would others before the end of the season.

So is it only the main stand side being relaid?

If you're somehow correct, I imagine Spurs or the F.A. have agreed to pay for half the new pitch, and with Dale being Dale, we thought we'll just put half a pitch down.

Agreed. It's hypothetical now, but if, and only if, it had been left covered in bad weather the old pitch may have soldiered on to the end of the season. We certainly played well on it in the cup replay and it's a matter of opinion whether we played better/worse on the Millwall pitch versus our own and conjecture whether we would have played better on a protected drill and fill versus the new pitch.

The good thing for me is that come the end of today, we can start talking about what goes on on the pitch and not about the sodding (bad pun intended) pitch itself.

A higher possibility = a fact? A fact is something that is true, not possible, more possible, probable, less probable, etc.

We needed a new pitch. We’ve got a new pitch.

We’ve now got a better chance of staying up and I’d put money on Keith Hill agreeing.

I agree, there is a higher possibility, but that is not something that is known or proven to be true (i.e. a fact).
