Does sound like a little more variety might be good, although I understood attendance varied depending on the particular issue being discussed.
Prof do you think those many very good scientists you mention, that sit on SAGE, have all to a person been corrupted as suggested here, as it seems a little far fetched to me, that at such a time, they would all to a person, be so lily livered to sell out their country, ideals and lifetime work...
“If it is true that Dominic Cummings attended meetings of Sage, then the government led by Boris Johnson has utterly corrupted independent scientific advice,” Richard Horton tweeted. “But I’m afraid to say that the scientists who sit on Sage have allowed themselves to be corrupted”, including the chief scientific officer and chief medical officer.
Surely at least some would have the fortitude and moral fibre to stand up to any interference, if any was forthcoming. I know for instance official statisticians will take no interference from politicians to manipulate figures even in relation to adjusting reporting periods to make them look more favourable.
You'd like to think they'd stand up to him, then again from.the outside it's a different kettle of fish. Didn't Cameron describe him as a "career psychopath"?

Well they do say it takes one to know one.
The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

Did he ever describe him as a mass hypnotist, as I think that is what it would take to get all those very good scientist to meekly go against their beliefs.
Phillip Hammond calls for lockdown to be ended because it’s harming the economy.
What a c*nt.
He’s far from the only one. The telegraph is getting very animated and some are taking a lead from the right wing lockdown protests in the USA. It’s breaking down slowly but surely. Another spike seems inevitable.

Do you remember Doctor David Kelly?
The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.
If having the virus doesn't guarantee any immunity then what do we do? Do we then have to test absolutely everybody and quarantine any who show positive? Will it mean an end to international travel or do we build special faciilities where we test people and if clear they stay isolated until their flight? What if we never find a vaccine or a cure? What if there is a new strain of this every year?
Are we heading for adystopian future where those tested and Covid free are moved to safe zones and those infected are sent to 'other'areas to die or otherwise see out their days?
Or do we end up just going back to everyday life with the knowledge Covid is always here and accepting the risks?
We've had no end of books/films/stories about zombie viruses, plagues, alien invasions or other versions of how humanity is brought to it's knees, is Covid the trigger for a great change in society?
Sorry, just letting my mind wander while waiting for the Curry's call centre to answer. Our new washing machine (only delivered 5 weeks ago) has sprung a leak. Been on hold for 35 minutes.
Indeed. A few points- the immune system clearing an infection does not mean there is memory and subsequent protection to re-infection. Production of antibody does not always mean protection. SAGE has neither an immunologist/vaccine expert nor a specialist is diagnostics. Some very good scientists but very weighted with modelling and epidemiology and not hands-on clinical virologists or emerging disease expertise.
This rather sensationalised statement has come from WHO, not SAGE.
In specific response to the question of ‘immunity passports’. All they’ve said is that they currently have no evidence of immunity being assured in those that have had the disease. What levels of antibodies etc would be needed. Not that it isn’t there.
We are having some success, apparently, in the use of plasma from recovered patients. Which rather suggests that there is protection. Otherwise, by definition, it wouldn’t work. A large scale trial is commencing out of Oxford University (I think) in the next few days.
Specialists across the world, including here, have said that they see no reason to believe that there won’t be at least some degree of immunity for some period of time. It’s the extent of each of those variables which is, at present, uncertain. How much and for how long.

I agree.
Leaving the general level of obnoxiousness of Cummings to one side, I can’t help think that all this is various camps protecting themselves when the blame game starts in full flow. The reality is that the figure of 20,000 deaths being a ‘good result’ is transparently going to be nowhere near the full total. And someone will be ‘blamed’ for that. Johnson, Cummings, the scientists, Hancock - all are candidates. So all will try to avoid being the one without the chair when the inquiry music stops.
Until all this ends, and we are only reaching the end of the beginning, no one will know how we have dealt with it. Countries that appeared to be doing well, Singapore for example, are currently suffering. Countries that seemed to be outliers, Sweden for example, aren’t doing quite as bad as feared.
Until there’s a full investigation at the end of all this, no one will know. Doesn’t stop them all positioning to throw each other under a bus though.
Meanwhile Johnson is doing what he does - go missing.

Maybe part of the problem is that people want answers quickly (those who are more worried about money anyway) and that just isn't going to happen.
If we relax the lockdown too quickly more people will die, does Hammond care more about people or money? The government, well many governments have borrowed vast amounts to see us through this, is it just going to prove to be just another vast transfer of wealth from the tax payer to the wealthy and us plebs end up paying for it so we have to go back to work asap and get on with it regardless of how many keel over and die?
"He added: "I see the disinfectant that knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning? As you see, it gets in the lungs, it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that."
Which just goes to show how little you know about how the Human body works. Ask Professor about what substances the body produces naturally and which of them have also been introduced. You forgot to mention his other stupid comment about UV light, except not so stupid after all. https://news.columbia.edu/ultraviolet-technology-virus-covid-19-UV-light

I’m not sure what Hammond has said. But if it’s to do with ending lockdown, it’s impossible to ignore the effects on public health of extending lockdown for longer than a few months. There are clear and proven links between poverty and health - not only in the UK, but across the world.

Maybe they didn't forget to mention the UV light thing, maybe if it's a real thing they didn't mention it because it doesn't matter?
What does matter, and I watched the footage, was Trump suggesting we should look into injecting disinfectant! When I was a kid I was threatened with having my mouth washed with soap, this takes that to a whole new level.
Dos anyone remember the Spitting Image sketch the President's brain is missing, they just chose the wrong President,

Like most people you think he was stupid for asking the qestion. But he was not, the MSM reaction to it WAS stuoid. They should have done some research first.

I will ask you, do you know what the body produces naturally when fighting infections?
Oh shut up.
Companies making Bleach and disinfectant have had to put out statements telling people not to inject themselves with their products due to the President being a complete imbecile. it’s part of a string of completely moronic statements he has made. Last week he was saying how clever the virus was to not be treated with antibiotics.
You trying to justify anything he says makes you a complete imbecile.

We’d all better pray for a vaccine ASAP.
I think he said something about the economy. I understand the link between poverty and health but the thing is, the government is throwing money around and there is a very definite link between Covid-19 and death. The government can deal with people's finances and stopping poverty, well they should have been all along. However, the government can't just tell the virus to go away because we want the plebs back at work. The virus won't listen.
I'm sorry if that sounds a bit sarky, I'm in that kind of mood!
